Told them I was American... - "ohhh, okay"
Asked how long I was in Ireland so far, = 5 months total... - "I've disappointing news for you... We cannot insure you until you've been here for THREE YEARS!"

I say, "I think I'm going to buy an Impreza WRX STi." - "That'll cost you serious money, even if you were pre-qualified with your record..."
I then say, "So if a 2.0L car is pricey here... If I brought over my 5.9L from America???" -"Insurance would be lethal, not to mention petrol..."

there is guys im working with that moved over from germany and Hungary and once you can show a proof of non claims discount over the last few years that should count the same. But in Hungary for example, the car is insured, not the driver so that makes it next to impossible to show proof on no claims for drivers, He surrendered his hungarian license for a full irish one and got insurance then, expensive but got it.

I wouldn't have "no claims." Though I don't have "at fault accidents,"
A year ago, we had golf-ball sized hail in northern Missouri... And just three days prior to my appointment for paintless dent repair, I hit a deer... I had my NFA (No Fault Accident) discount but hail and eejit deer claims... And Four years ago, a lady ran a red light, totalling my 91' Legacy turbo, her insurance didn't pay for six months, so to fix my car, I had to use my insurance to temporarily cover "non/under insured" motorists.

My wife says I have a lot of "driving-incidents," but I used to drive 20,000 to 35,000 miles a year in America. She put 9,000km on her car in four years here... Our insurance companies allow bonus for 1-3 claims (non fault) per three year period because Americans drive so much.

Do Greenlight in England insure you guys in the south? I'm with them and the price is very good IMO.

They only insure performance/modified cars stc so that's why they can bring price down a bit as they have a certain niche.

Am nearly sure only cars in republic can be insured by Irish companies.

As seem as we are part of Europe should be allowed get insured by any insurance co.

Must start ringing around myself. Was with Hibernian for nearly 20 years and Axa were able to better there quote by €170. (Mates rates) still paying 850.00

Nearly collecting me pension and no claims bar below which weren't my fault

Car wrote off after being rear ended when they were making naas rd into 3 lanes

Dickhead who hit me and I hit merc during snow.
