Car break-in

For now I have nothing else to do than waiting for insurance guys - we'll see what they say

cheers guys

its getin worse in the last 6 weeks they took loads of bikes adults&kids from the underground were i am broke into loads of cars taken radios tools etc then took neighbours alloys thankfully they only got 3 as the car fell and jammed the wheel against the hub so hoping they are of no use
but now its body parts etc they hit same car twice in few weeks keyfob for gates and stereo then thursday night the new stereo and the bonnet 1 car even had to be scrapped
i think its heading back to the handbag snatching days were nothing is safe and thats not good.

sorry to hear that hope they get caught

I've only found out.. :new_puppy_dog_eyes:

Im so sorry to hear about that Rudeboy. :( Nothing is safe these days. :cuckoo:

It looks like it's better in this world to be a thief than citizen paying taxes, insurance for the car etc.

But to be honest - in some way - of course I can only blame myself...

Because there's a big brake kit, turbo timer (ooohhh really huge performance mod) and there was a boost controller - all not listed on insurance -
it means the car has been modified, so the insurance might be void... The technical team will make its decision and I'll be informed tomorrow.

But I almost see the answer...

Very cool - so I pay 1200e a year and then when some stupid morons break in to my car making some loss to me I'm not only able to get cover for not modified widow and some stupid panels but also I may be punished with insurance void... what a great bonus!

But as i said - I can only blame myself - next time I'll remember to list even a stupid modified cigarettes lighter...

But maybe I'm wrong - let's wait for tomorrow.

Anyway boost controller will not be covered, cd changed will not be covered...

AXA said the exam same thing to me a few years ago when I had a Punto GT, wouldn't pay out for theft damage because I had a non-standard air filter and never declared it...

I'm with Quinn now on the Impreza and they are aware of all the mods. Better safe than sorry.

Steve.

The things that makes me really angry, too - is that if they void my insurance now in the middle of period they're given another good 600e for nothing... for the next 6 months I would normally be insured for.

BTW - are there any lawyers in Dublin dealing with this sort of cases?

OK - I understand modifications should be declared but what it has to just a simple theft of my stuff?
I can agree with not being paid for the undeclared stuff, but I'd like all the rest fixed because i paid lot of money for that.

And also - any idea - in case of policy cancellation, what about the remaining half a year I paid for?

The insurance company probably look at it from the point of view that you have made your car more desireable to criminals by modifying it. They stole your boost controller and aftermarket radio which weren't declared so they could think along the lines of, "well they probably wouldn't have broken into the car if those aftermarket items werent present so why should we even pay for his broken window?".

I have heard a case before where the took the value of the claim and subtracted the difference in premiums before paying out. Being honest though, I cant see that happening. I'm sorry for your trouble but unfortunately its the risk a lot of us take by not declaring mods

As above Rudeboy, they will probably take it as non disclosure of information...Which they dont like. I reckon going down the road of solicitors etc will probably cause you more grief than its worth. Sorry for your trouble

You might be right, but might be also good to ask someone - anyway still waiting from responce.
Anyway it's easy way for them to pay nothing - whatever you put non-standard in your car...
Ah... not worth of my nerves anyway - just a car, just some money... lesson taken

just fyi - after first dramatic posts - the repair has been approved, damages quoted at about 1200e
Now waiting for repair - but it may take a while (couple of weeks they said!) to source some parts.
Anyway - sort of good news - I'll be happy to have at least new glass fitted as soon as possible - still driving with the trash bag stretched over the hole in glass.

Ah, and btw the question - in case I need to wait longer for the dimmed glass for type-r - any idea if autoglass or any other shops do plexiglass replacements? I would be much more happy to have this not the bag in the window :)
