anyone recommend using cartell or motorcheck or the likes to check vehicle history???
worth the few quid or is there a better way to check this????

Worth the few quid, did 2 last year to make sure there was no finance owed and it wasn't an insurance write off.. Beyond that there's not much info..

I used motorcheck, worked well, got the details instantly. No experience with cartell

sound robbie...
is that for round 35 euro i think???..or the whole lot for over a ton??
thanks.
lots of ropey feckin cars on donedeal!!

Ye, it was the full check for €35.. The other one is like an AA inspection where they go out to the car and check it which i didn't need cause ciaran did it for me and I'm sure you'd do it for yourself.

Its just good for piece of mind when you can verify the chassis number, reg, etc. But I only did it once I'd seen a car I really liked and agreed a deal on it. Then went home, got the motorcheck to ensure everything was above board and collected a couple of days later.

I always check a yoke on cartell. As tommy said peace of mind. It's also great if you can check pulse :police:

Worth the money! I use it all the time, but I've a mate in the trade with an account with both so it never costs me.

They are good, but id just advise people to bare in mind that they are far from being correct and up to date from my experience...
My first experience was a car that i knew had been a previous Finance repo, finance was cleared by the garage and sold to a guy who after 1 year i bought it from, when i did the check it still was down as finance owed, so i got onto them and 2 days later got an email back that they had contacted the Finace agency and it was actually clear and that they hadnt up dated the info... ffs after nearly 2 yrs i asked.. and i sold the car 1 year after that and it was still listed as finance owed when it was clear...

My 2nd experience as a mileage issue, rang them and told them the mileage that was on the car and it come up as wrong and i got the something like the following.. for example in 2007 it had 60k miles, 2008 70k miles 2009 80k miles 2010 90k miles 2011 70k miles and now has 95k miles.. which was only a few months after the supposedly 70k reading... so 25 k miles mysteriously up on car in few months... i qiestioned the guy on phone and he said it couldnt be right aswell... what had happend? some goon in Nct instead of writing down in Miles what was on the car read it as Kms... so for talk sake 100k miles becomes when mistaken as KMS 60k miles..

So just be carefull and dont go by it 100% as ive come across 2 mistakes that would have stopped someone else buying to perfectly legit cars

used this morning before going to look at the car and would recommend motorcheck...
very accurate for me and well happy plus free a months free breakdown cover!!

Thats who i got the mis information from aswell... and when selling the car that was a finance repo, i rang them to see had the system been updated to state the actuall factsand they wouldnt tell me without paying for another check :angry1: Even offerd 10% off to try sweetn the deal, shower of wankers..

They might be slow to update in that respect ken, but I imagine they are quick enough if it was the other way. If you hadn't known the finance was clear, you probably would've just walked away but if you bought it after they said it was clear, they'd be liable for a nice lawsuit.

Not ideal I know, but at least the likelyhood of getting stuck with a bogey car is minimal.
