I'm trying to find a starter motor for a tdi octavia 98-04 but no one seems to have one. (tdi golf or A3 is the same)

What was that crowd near the redcow roundabout called?

If anyone has any tips on where to try it'd be appreciated

Worst case scenario, if you cant find it in Ireladn, register an account on www.findapart.co.uk and let the scrapyards come to you. I had serious hassle finding a rear window for a merc ce320 i had there wasnt a whole lot of that shape (w124) merc coupes sold here so no one breaks them.

I had the window found and delivered within a week, wasnt mega money either. Have you tried pricing re conditioning your old starter is it the bendix (the rod that shoots out to engage the flywheel) or is it the motor itself? Re cons arent all that expensive its an off the shelf swap most of the time.

I have tried Summerhill Car Parts in Coolock a few times when I couldn get parts anywhere else and they had it. What about Traynors in Armagh

You should of rang me just to see if i needed anything

Ring GSF car parts, they will have a new one at very reasonable prices. If you ring the one on Shantalla road in Santry Dublin 9, ask for Tommy Byrne and tell him the isdc recommended them, he'll look after you.

Nice one

www.partfinder.ie is linked to nearly every breaker in Ireland. Search for the part with a drop down menu and it will tell you who has it. No need to register with them either.

Nice one Keith, me da is gone over to some place in tallaght to get a second hand one, but tried a load of places yesterday and they all had different models of the starter we needed, but sure i'll let ya know

Do not buy a second hand vw/Audi starter motor.
Get the one you have reconditioned.
You will only be pulling the second hand one back out in
6 months time!! Re con it and be done with it,trust me on
this!!!!! Do you have the original starter motor?

Graham I have to say that's not true at all. The car is a 99 and has never had starter trouble before, I got a motor out of a 04 model for €50 and its perfect. I can expect that to last years. I price getting it recon'd and its about €130 ish, sure I'de buy 3 second hand ones for that money and you only ever get 6 months warranty with them anyway so a waste IMO

Fair enough! Ive seen it a good few times over the last 9 years working on them
you must be getting the good ones!
