Car for the missus

Hey lads,

Gonna be moving to Dublin soon and the girlfriend needs to get a car for herself. Being a woman, it has to be funky and practicality doesnt come into play at all!! She has a bee in her bonnet about a nissan figaro or else a mini. The fact that the figaros are all about 20 years old is a wee bit off putting for me and I havent a clue about any issues with new minis.

She's spotted this one

any opinions or knowledge is welcome

Cheers

I think the minis can be troublesome enough and ive heard that simple jobs on them can be a pain in the arse to do and time intensive.
VW Beetle be an option or a TT?

talk to wagon dec he knows about the mini's. fiat 500 :dontknow: ment to be a good little car but dont know . tt looks well

the mini is a great little car my woman has an 05 1.6 cooper with the chilli pack and its a very quirky little car powersteering pumps gives bother and bushings on high mileage ones other than that they are grand best crack ever to drive like a go kart .just be sure to buy the low mileage cars, very early ones as in 01 -03 gave some electrical problems but nothing serious afaik

id be buying one with half the miles of that one
plenty of low mile ones around
not a bad car
but not a great car
im biased as i drove classic mini's
as Dec said electric nigilly faults
buy shares in a bulb factory
engine is from a chrysler neon :icon_confused:

dont go mini.... they are overpriced, slow, not good on fuel, expensive parts and are not as funky as ppl think....
the figaros are very rare ie parts are hard to come by, plus they are madly overpriced....
a new-shape mx5 would be cool, reliable, cheap, fun to drive. and convertible, if you want that.
a nice peugeot GTI/clio 172 would be quite cool too, they arent the sexiest but they are quick and fun and cheap!
fiat 500... ugh, italien = no thanks.

if you have a big-ish budget; s2000! if she really wants a super car. sexy, quick, grand to run, very very fun to drive.

Thanks for all the replys folks. @gonzogicker. I'm afraid the Jazz is a bit too boring looking for her. Mx-5s have been discussed. There's loads of them out there at decent money and I've heard they're fairly bullet proof. This one looks very clean with low miles.

Her mam used to own one of the new ones with the folding hard top but when we had the severe winter 2 years ago she had a few scares with the rwd drive. Olivia now has that in her brain. And the fact that you can fit nothing in them!! I'd welcome one into the family so if you can give me some arguments to persuade her, throw them at me!!

Fairly simple solution to that. Buy a 2nd set of wheels & include in the budget the best set of winter tyres on the market. Be pretty sure there would be no winter mishaps then

Cheers Brian. Solid case there! I forgot to mention the budget is only 4k max so fiat 500s are out the gap!

my missus just bought a honda hrv and have to say it is a great car to drive absolute miser on juice parts are easy to find and very easy to work on plus its 4 wheel drive so no worries in the winnter months.not sure if your missus would drive one but there is plenty out there in your price range

Just about to advertise this on behalf of my mom shortly... imported from Japan in 08 for her... well moreso for my dad! So meticulously maintained and only used as a second, fair-weather car.

1995 MX5 1.8 R Limited Edition... 1of a 1000 made. 74k miles. Dark blue metallic paint, dark blue fabric top, bright red leather interior, rare 15 inch BBS wheels, light flywheel, 4.3 to 1 axle ratio, Torsen limited slip, Standard shocks with 25mm lowering springs, Strut brace, Nardi steering wheel, wood brake handle and gearshift knob. BTW, all of which come standard on this model... Also come with hard top which is now like hens teeth and worth 500.00 euro alone.

Have to say.. if I'd some spare cash I'd buy this myself... savage car...rare example and quicker than any other MX5 I've driven.
