car mapped

Got my 98 sti mapped tuesday, was a bit dissapointed with results of rolling road. 295bhp but torque was good 347lbs. Mapped with power fc @1.2bar.No boost controller, but think now I should have fitted one.Must fit boost guage and check because it just dosent feel like a car with 1.2bar of boost and if it isnt its going straight back up.The mapper said thats the best he could do while keeping it safe?????????? Just dosent feel very quick to me.

Mapping doesnt suddenly turn your car into a monster, the mods will do that. If your running your car standard then 295 bhp is a very good output.

All mapping does is it lets you get the most out of what you have and makes it so your car wont die while doing it.

From your prev posts you've got a 98 Type R. Assuming you have nothing more than exhaust, intake & power fc then you should be fairly impressed with those figures at 1.2 bar. Your torque figure is very impressive & bhp pretty much spot on for a car only running 1.2 bar.

Torque figure is very impressive

Think you just have caught the bug now n just want more , Common enough condition on here :subaru:

BHP figures are not as important as you may think....
BHP is nothin without torque.... Get a nice open (private) stretch of tarmac, Get someone with a standard car
and drag them against eachother you will see how much quicker your car is than a standard machine....

Thats a fairly impressive figure of torque.... Id be more than impressed....

Are you sure that 347 is not Nm instead of lbft like you have above? If its Nm then that would give you 255lbft of torque. That sounds more like a better accurate figure IF the car is standard.

I have my type R mapped with a power FC at 1.35BAR. It is completely standard and mine produces 270bhp and 270lbft

Funny Andy Im inclined to agree with you, 347ftlbs of torque, you wouldn't be saying the car hasn't much life in it! :shock2:
Maybe the guy needs to just double check his print out! to be sure be sure like.

Hi man,

Where did you get it mapped by the way? Best of luck with the motor anyway :xmas_cheers: and 295bhp is very respectable figures! Well done

i personally think mapping is overarted i have my type r just over three years not mapped and hasnt missed a beat and producing just under 300hp only fuelling mod i made was 255lph fuel pump,i understand the point of mapping for extra mods and track setup.but for every day use i dont understand, unless your screwing the bolts out of it,if its not broke dont fix it.

Jap import subarus need to be mapped to suit irish fuel due to them running on 102 ron in japan, running on lower ron rating for example 95ron you will get detanation that could end in engine failure. Mapping is not just about extra mods and track setup. The mapper sets it up for the proper fuel you want to get it mapped for and along with the mods you have done. your running the risk of engine failure when its not mapped. Maybe your car is mapped already :dontknow:

There's one question that hasn't been asked yet in this thread - or I missed that? - what fuel have you mapped your car wtih?

That HP seems rather low for that amount of boost.

Usually STi / Type Rs that are mapped on our dyno put out 300 hp @ 1 bar boost. 330HP and 300 ftlb torque @ 1.3 bar boost. Is the engine/turbo in good shape?

no its not mapped its an expense i can do without its not cheap best part of a grand. i have looked into this a lot ,and its not as simple as saying fuel over there is 102 ron over here its 95 maxol 99,theres parametres that dont be taken into consideration air densitny altitude all play a major factor in how fuel and other sources are ignited,we learned this in college part of my masters degree, about energy saving and reducing c02.

Did you check if you filled the car with diesel. :icon_lol: :icon_lol: Only joking keith, thats good torque if its correct, especially on a standard turbo. Good excuse to start doing more to it.
