Car taken for no tax

Car got taken off me by local traffic core cop.
I was less than 100 meters from home. Fucking dick won't let me off til Monday.
Called recovery truck. I kept a eye on car in woman car. To see cop trying to start car and couldn't with immobiliser. We did a quick turn around up the road to meet the recovery truck driver driving car down the road to tow truck.
I thought car can't be driving on road with no tax unless by cop, as I can take it tomorrow from storage onlyon a trailer.
What's the line on them driving car without your permission? Any come back on this?

Thanks

well bud , sry to hear bout the car (hope it wasn't my dodgy wheels that they did ya for :icon_biggrin:) As for the tow truck driver, would imagine they're covered to move it to get it on the truck.

Alot of this depends on the Garda, i'm no solicitor, but i think if the car isn't taxed.

Then legally it's not meant to be on the road.

Once chatting to a Garda who pulled me over, car was two weeks out on tax(was waiting till pay day to pay it)

Garda explained that there isn't any "grace period" he could indeed take it.

But he didn't. Luck of the draw really if your car isn't taxed and you drive it on the road.

Hope you get it sorted without too much cost.

Unfortunately once it's out of tax that's it. Even by a day as you get a notice in the post a month if not more before you tax ends.

Even if it park on the road outside your house they can take it.

If it was England it would be crushed.

As for the guard driving it, he is cover under the traffic laws to drive your car to the nearest compound and as for the tow truck driver he is also cover to drive it to his truck if it's safer to do that then bring the truck to the car.

You took a chance and where done. You can still write of three of those months of arrears though. Just get it out and get it taxed and enjoy it again.

4months is taking the p1ss to be honest :hammerhead:

agree, i understand few days and would still be a bit of pushing it, but 4 months is a wee bit of taking a piss.

this sums it up about irish laws. :D.

3 on 1 or 2 off at a push if your going down that road anything over 3 months they can take it

4 months lol...i have my legacy 3 years now and it was off the road a year before i bought it so wasnt taxed since 2008!!I only started to tax it in january this year!!!got away for 3 years without even a disc in the window!!well i got about 4 60euro fines in that time which isnt too bad!!!gonna keep her in tax from now on for peace of mind...less hassle...plus lovin the discusted face on the guards when they have to wave you on!!!priceless :icon_biggrin:

recovery truck driver would be able to drive it without tax
most he would be doing wrong would be not displaying his trade plates
in fairness if you haven't taxed it in 4 months you have to except this kind of thing could happen you

Respect man on the 3 yrs
I hav no problem keeping tax in date if the road tax money was spend on the roads
The state of some of roads outside town.
€125 for tow fee n 35 per nite after. So pick up on Monday and can get out of woman's car.
I took picture of mileage on car, what's the story if there's some extra mileage on it, as recovery crowd are out the countryside and wouldn't want car getting diff'd around the roads out there.
They don't have the best of names this crowd.
So that's the first thing I'll be checking on Monday.

4 months taking this piss here a good one for ye, mate younger bro bought renault clio few years back. A got car taken off him as not tax on it for 9 years he had it two months. And the lad on joe Duffy during week that hasn't taxed a car in 5 years and never got stopped.

That probably had them out. And to collect revenue to help pay for their overtime that there no money for as their 2.1M done after Obama n queen visit. So no let off on any fines was the direction of superintendent in tullamore to cops and that in all station according to girlfriend bro was chatting
Cop in the sauna during week only heard this today.

So be safe of the traffic core lads

I was believing that up to 2 months u just get fine+points, and over this period your car ends in garda station parking.
Happens to me once and the bill was 500+ between the fine, 135 per night exclusive parking spot in the garda station in
Dungarvan and few moths of tax (back and forward). The car was pile of s**t so on the spot, the guards suggested to
leave the car with them all together
Now I tax from time to time when funds are available and stick to the back roads avoiding all potential check points.

Don't see what your rant is about Donnie, car is 4mts out of tax what did you think was going to happen.

Cop was well within his rights to take it off you.

Yep you may just suck it up, you have no point in cribbing about the recovery driver driving the car, if you get car back and there is 2k miles more on it than when you left it... what you gonna do??? Not a fukn thing.
Its you against a big machine, and if i was you id keep my mouth shut and pay up and get it out of there asap

Ya suck up my fine alright, but are ya off your head to think that i wont be asking questions if there aload Of milaged and two worn tyres left on the back. I'll be ring the big machine, I think you would too. They hav the right to take car with no tax. But they hav to store car safely. Its not like in film
ferris bueler's day off, where the lads in parking lot take the ferrari for a rip around the city.

Hopefully car will be fine and i just worrying , but i'll see tomorrow.
I'll try to be more like the rest of ye and keep tax more up to date...so send yer spare cash please
I'll set up PayPal for donations. :multijump:

Rant was really cop could hav let me get the less than 100 metres home, said I'd park it up til i tax Monday morning. No go.. Work mate's car in a 10 months out of date and drove through two check points and was told get it done as soon as he could. I was with him for last one jammy git. Joys of driving Opel Astra and not meeting my friendly traffic core cop.

Peace out.. Come on Ireland!!!

Picked up car, all okay with it no extra milage.
Freaked driving it home incase I met cop again.
Getting it taxed on payday. In the Woman car til then, the shame of it...
Poguet 206cc...
€195 release fee all in. They took in 7 car Friday nite. Nice few euros for them..

Funny, the release fee is what you would of paid in tax for 3months - ish
You'll live and learn. Just pay your freaking tax - not worth the stress and hassle at the end of the day.

The way i look at it is, its you guys that fu*k things up for us the ones who actually pay on time, you have a crash your insurance will step back cos your car was not meant to be on the road in the first place.

That crap pisses me well off. No point coming on here ranting about it. Its your own fault at the end of the day.
Suck it up!

I heard with the new tax clamp downs, that the form that the cops used to stamp saying it was off the road are to be done away with and also if a car is out of tax anymore than a month it can be taken. Guess its a way of upping the revenue.
Id check the underside of my car aswell as a lot of the time they dont drive them off recovery, they are lifted with fork lift
