just wondering if you import a 08 car now is the tax now based on emissions rather than cc

yep far as i know it is, i know it came in mid 08 but i think all 08's imported are on the new tax rates, good if its diesel bad if she's big engine petrol, what ya lookin at.

yes unless its first registered before 1st of july then I think you can choose either c02 or standard tax

Thats good to know.. thanks..yes I'm looking a buying something that runs on satins fuel. Thinking of parking the car up for a bit. The running cost as a daily runner are getting too high.Looking at a passat 1.9 engine as the 2 litres I'm told can be more troublesome. I have the van for work and do 500-600 miles a week and get great mpgs but with the car if she goes anywhere now its empty

if your not stuck on a Passat the 2.0 mondeo 07-up is and excellent car, reliable and good on fuel too ,your right with the passat the 2.0 gives some trouble.

ya the 2.0 have a bad name, ya prob get batter value here if the right car came up for ya, but better spec from the uk, got an a4 sline avant 07 the 1.9 from uk few months back no huge saving but hard to get a high spec 1.9 here, i hear the 1.9 is a better job great torque in them, first diesel i have had from vag was always a jap man but so far so good

Ive looked a few cars already. hard to get a clean one. Not that fussy on spec really. But yes the uk cars can be better kitted out.
One dealer in Dublin last weekend was lucky I didn't deck him over a car and I'm a quiet fella. Asked him over the phone was the car ever damaged, told me no, the car was mint as new he said. Drive 100 mile saturday morning got out of the car and could see the car I came up to see sitting there with the worst paint job you ever seen all along the whole drivers side and up the pillars and then the cheeky little runt says ah I see you found where it was sprayed, told me then what happened it. It was nothing major damage wise but I reckon I'd do a better job spraying it in the dark.

that really shits me ,I had a similar thing happen to me but I went the whole fucking way to Cardiff to find it was a complete shitbox luckily I had a few to view over there I could have killed the c*nt

Hate that crap. The day ya buy is the day ya sell. Easy sell on a clean yoke again.

Cardiff... don't feel as bad now so

Those VW 1.9 s are known to have a conrod go leaving a big hole in the block.I saw one and heard of another. Not pretty.

My dad has a 07 passat. The main things that can go wrong with them as far as I can see is the electronic handbrake can fail either when its on or off and for some reason the airbag light stays on in them. Just something to keep in mind if your looking at them.

I think if you import a car that's between jan and jun 08 you can choose the tax basis CO2 or cc

Thanks for the replies lads. Picked up a 08 passat up north last night. Have to vrt it yet. I'm greasing up for it already :new_puppy_dog_eyes:. Few bits to be done on it. Needs t belt and back brakes and the electronic handbrake is showing an intermittent fault. Gonna replace the switch and see if thats what it is.. Happy out so far with it. Thought there was something wrong with it on the drive back the fuel guage hand wasn't moving
