Cars Seized in Cork

Aaron

Petrolheads
was on redfm today that 25 cars have been seized by Gardai in North Cork in a crackdown against boy racers...

anyone here anything about this?

Cars prob had no tax or nct or some other silly reason
they can't take a car for no reason

did they say for what reason?

I heard on the radio about a week ago that the gardai are going to crackdown on boy racers that have bigger engines in there cars that they shouldnt have...

Not sure if this is related but on Sunday night (about 11pm) there was a big Garda checkpoint (probably 4 cars) on one of the roads around the Dunkettle interchange. I was full sure I'd be pulled over (since I was in the Scooby) but got waved through. There were 3 cars pulled over but all of them were bog standard (Focus 5 dr hatch, and two other family cars), definitely not modded. I just presumed it was a drink-driving checkpoint.

didnt hear anything about that today, but i have heard that the gardai can ask you if your car has been modified in any way,if you say no its totally standard and they dont believe you they can take your car get it tested (i presume rollin road) then if it turns out its not standard the gardai ring your insurance company and cancel your insurance.now i havent heard of it happening to anyone yet but i have heard about a load of bikes in cork being tested to see were they restricted in power.you have to do that when you get bike license first for 2 years.

No man, no rolling road will run a car on the rollers with out owners signiture,
Just say that you have the usual stuff like exhaust, wheels bla bla,
You'd have to be pretty blaitant for them to be able spot a different motor or something like that!

it was my boss that said it to me a few weeks ago,we do work on a few cars belonging to garda in our garage and it was a bike cop that said it to him about checking modified cars.he said if you modify anything you have to notify your insurance company.just another way to have us all driving 1.3 family saloons in my opinion.

Keep everything up to date and theres not much they can do really. With regards notifying your insurance of mods, a lot of the time it doesn't even affect the price of your policy unless you've gone balls out on it so your better off declaring everything to them anyway IMO.

When i was in Cork a few weeks ago they had a big checkpoint near the Silver Springs in the city just as your heading towards the motorway. Ended up being breathalysed at it.

seen the gardai recently down near eniscorthy and they had a civic pulled over and they had the bonnet up looking at the engine
id say that they are gonna start clamping down on that sort of thing
in fairness theres a lot of cars that are on the log books as stock models or cars with different engines in them
a lot of knock off engines id say in stuff also
id say they are more concerned about stolen stuff :dontknow:

I wonder how much money they are investing in this clamp down!
Less lads would die on the road if the government gave an annual grant towards tyres so lads don't drive around with bald tyres,
Also, heavily subsidise driving lessons and car control courses!
That way they would be so much less likely to crash in the first place!

They cant even fix the roads, but they can come up with silly ideas which they dont have the man power to deal with,
but i do hate this, it's 1.3 on the log book the cops would be wide to that, not sure how they could tell if you happen to have a bigger turbo or injectors or would it just be down to the power its putting out, yet again too much involved in that, also how is the ordinary guy supposed to know what has been done to the car before they owned it, here's something someone might be able to clear up, at the bottom of a proposal for it says the information i have given above is to the best of my knowledge true, but i cant remember if they cover modifications on the form or only over the phone, but i wonder how far that would get you :comp26:

insurance policy violation due to misrepresentation of the vehicle specifications...or something into this tune

If it was on RedFM it's like some fella telling you a story in a pub..........."my friend's cousin's daughter in law's sister heard from her friend at work's boyfriend's brother that the guards are crushing cars at the side of the road now!!!"
