Central locking issue

How’s things, recently bought a jap 05 Hawkeye sti.
Buttons on key fob for central locking don’t work. When you press the button inside on the drivers door to lock/unlock the doors it makes a beep sound from the drivers footwell but doesn’t do anything.

Maze of wires in drivers footwell, don’t know where to start. Found fuse for central locking and if I pull the fuse and put it back in while the key is in the ignition the central locking works from button on drivers door as it should. Once I take the key out of the ignition it goes back to making the beep sound and not doing anything.

Nothing to do with the key I don’t think as button for locking/unlocking on drivers door card doesn’t work. Beep noise it makes when you press it makes me think it’s seeing a fault in the system. Came across somewhere online the control unit for central locking in drivers side footwell can give trouble.

There is a sequence to making it work depending on the year and model of car . I’m not posting it here but will send you a pm
