It may have been ugly but it was possibly the best rally car Ford ever made

maybe not in outright wins jay but for technical ability it was an awesome car from the first in 99 up the last in 2010.The Ford Focus RS WRC appeared in 173 World Rally Championship events, winning 44 and collecting 142 podium places that's some record for a car model in modern wrc

The RS200 wasn't competitive? You can only judge a car by it's peers..the RS 200 wasn't a successful rally car, it never even won a world championship rally afaik

The RS200 wasn't competitive? You can only judge a car by it's peers..the RS 200 wasn't a successful rally car, it never even won a world championship rally afaik

Correct no WRC wins... only success was European Rallycross and circuit racing after they abolished Grp B 12 months after it's release.

How the hell does that make it the 'best rally car ford ever made'...????

success doesnt make it the best car, i'm talking about which one id want in my garage.
WRC wasnt around in those days.
RS200 can do sub 3 seconds 0-60 on gravel who wouldnt want that?
WRC cars are restricted powerwise and they make up for it with electronically controlled diffs and the likes the group b is a hooligan on wheels

@Joe the rs500 Was never a rally car it was a touring car and an incredibly successful one at that. only the normal 3 door cosworth was a rally car

BTW... WRC has been round since 1973...

The 1973 World Rally Championship season was the inaugural season of the WRC and began with the 42ème Rallye Automobile de Monte-Carlo on January 19.

As stated... my favourites are the 6R4 and Quattro.. all Group B hooligans... and won a lot more titles in rallying than the RS200.

since the 2011 wrc cars are watered down compared to there predecessors based on the s2000 cars


@jamie i was replying to the post about best built ford, not looking for a row just giving my opinion

if best is based on success alone then the 206, xsara and c4 are all near the top and none of them would be in my pick

It has to be a integrale for me as that was winning everything on the wrc scene when I was young and before them, the audi quattro group b monsters and before them the mk 1 and 2 escorts before that, I could go on but really my real hero was the group a impreza, amazing to watch and listen to in the hands of the late great Colin.
