classic wagon advice

Sunday Drivers
hi i havent been on here in a while, but ive been offered a 94 wrx estate for very good money. the catch is that the car does have accident damage. i have had a good look at the car and from what i can see most of the damage is cosmetic, front and rear bumper, side lights, spotlights, a wing and 1 or 2 other minor bits, as for the mechanical end of it the drivers side wheel is bent back and to sort that it needs a new wishbone, droplink and anti roll bar. the front panel was also bent/pushed in bending the rad but it still holds water. i have heard the engine running and im happy with that end of things. oh it also needs a new exhaust cat back.

to get to the point and sorry for being long winded but i am just wondering if it is worth while fixing this car myself as a bit of a project, so hoping someone can give me a rough cost on replacing the damaged bits ive mentioned above with good second hand parts apart from the front panel which i would have done at a body shop ....... and just to add the car is a 1994 but it has a face lift front end..

From what you have said above it sounds like it needs a good bit doing to it, but parts should be fairly easy to source second hand so if you can do it all except paint work and you want a project go for, the only thing I would say is in parts and labour it could add up to 2k or more and the car is not worth that, so if you do it don't do it expecting a return on your money, if your doing it to keep it in would rapid it as original as you can

i can get the car for 150 euro, and i can do all the work bar the front panel myself, i can also do the spraying. im more interested in fixing it for myself ive no real interest in selling it. just didnt wanna take it and spend more on parts than what id spend on another estate. it would also be a project that i would do over a few months as ive a shed i can put the car in out of the weather and out of the way.

just seems a shame to break it as there is so little wrong with it, if it had a wishbone droplink and anti roll bar it would be back on the road just wouldnt look pretty. heres a complete list of parts that it would need to have it looking like it should:

wishbone
droplink
anti roll bar
front bumper
rear bumper
side lights
spot lights
radiator
front panel

just to add this car isnt an STI but seems to have alot of STI parts on it, full interior, exhaust system, suspension arms and genome defi gauges

id buy it for parts, pick up another with a clean body for cheap needing engine work and swap over bits

surely theres more work in swapping an engine etc than there is in swapping a few bent suspension arms and a pair of bumpers. im not trying to be argumentative, maybe i should have worded my original post better. roughly how much would it cost me to buy all the above listed damage parts second hand bar the front panel.

If it has 3 defi gauges (as long as they're genuine) in it, they are worth more than €150 alone so I'd buy it straight away and check prices for parts then. There is a classic breakers on here and davelegacy may have some parts left but not sure he has any classic parts any more, worth a try on both however.

Probably end up costing you the guts of a grand on the road even doing the vast majority of work yourself.

thanx rob and jj, thats more the answer i was looking for, personally i wouldnt mind spending 1000-1200 on it as it will be done over 5/6 months so i would be spending 100 here 200 there, i know it still all adds up but its way more affordable than shelling out the full amount straight away and prevents another good jap car being ripped apart to make an easy few quid, id much prefer the car on the road than the money in my pocket but im weird that way.

thanx for the replies and sorry for being an argumentative bo***x

If a project... Then why not if you don't mind putting some money into regardless what it's worth afterward.

Doesn't dound like it needs much either and if you can do most of the work then why not.

I'll be breaking my own V6 Wrx wagon in the new year and will have all the bits you need if you do go that route.

When i said that i meant buy one with blown/fucked engine and swap over bits to the one your on about . Panel's,bumpers, suspension bits etc....... prob cost you 1k odd all in.
150 for car, 5/600 on spare car then 4/500 on other bits depending you do most work and then sell the rest off the parts left over.
