Clifford Alarm or alternative?

Well lads, just getting all my ducks in a row for (hopefully) pickin my leggy up on Saturday morning. The age old question about alarms. I had a clifford concept 500 a few years ago on a EG civic. Had the works, blackjax, prox sensor, got the autostart too for a toy. Fantastic alarm no doubt. Thing is back them it cost me over a grand. Have priced it since in dublin, and is a min of 550 for clifford 470 + prox sensors. Im not doubting the effectiveness of the clifford, just wondering is there anything out there comparable on features, but not as costly. Nothing says leave my car alone like that blue flashing light in the window, but im sure thats a lot to do with marketing and word of mouth too.
Ive seen an autopage alarm that is packed with features, at a cheaper price, granted cheaper aint always good, but am i just paying for the clifford name? the pager feature interests me a lot, i sleep like a log. I have a budget of max € 450. Advice will be much appreciated, what are you using? I do bear in mind that not matter what, if they want to take it, they'll take it!

:dontknow:

An alarm is only as good as the installer that fits it.

Cliffords have a very good reputation but spending nearly 1k to protect a car of value of less than 10k might be overkill (apologies if incorrect about value as I'm not sure what you're buying).

Toad alarms get very good reviews in the UK & are quite reasonable, spend a few quid extra on getting a top class installer would be my advice

nothing is on a par with a clifford IMO....
small price in comparison to waking up and find the car has been lifted...
dont cut corners on security mate is the best advice anyone can give ya....
cliffords can be bought on ebay cheap enough and then find a good reputable guy to fit it...
scoobymaniac on here can help!!!

Scoobymaniac is the man for cliffords. He'll be back today, was away the last few days

Steve.

Thanks lads, dont want to scrimp on an alarm, but i do only have a budget to stick to,damn recession. So want to get the most bang for my buck. Nice one gretts, was on to them already, said he would sort me out alright. I see ice tronix ( am I allowed mention names?) do an autopage alarm with all the bells and whistles, they any good? anyone heard any (true) stories?

Had an autopage on a previous car and i had nothing but issues with it....
However that could have been the dodgy fella that installed it more than the alarm......

Speak to Scoobymanic and see what he recons.... he knows alot more about alarms than most of us.

Hope ya get sorted man

I know nothing about alarms, but as Treasurer of the club I feel we might have a new trader/advertiser coming on board based on this thread and others like it!!

 € € € €

haha

Nodge, Free advise is the way of the forum man..... Why not get this advise from someone that knows alot more than the rest of us........... :653:

Thanks for the recommendations lads but this does read like an advertisement for someone who should be a trader, which unfortunately I can't sign up as, at the moment.

I will help lads out with any advice they need through PM ONLY as I am running for the committee and won't be signing up as a trader if I get it. I may sign up as a trader in the future if I don't get elected onto the committee.

Can I ask anyone recommending me for alarm advice to PM the person in question and not to mention it on the forum as this may be seen as unauthorised advertising and is unfair to traders on here.

Thanks again lads.

Phil.

i dont think it's an advertisment for anyone just lads letting other members know that there is someone with the knowledge of helping out fellow members

I see what your saying man, and I agree with ya but as always there is always 2 ways of reading something, and to keep things fair its best to avoid it.

Imagine If a trader didn't renew his membership but everyone kept thanking him and recommending him on the forum, that would be seen as unfair on the other traders and unauthorised advertising. Ya know what I mean?

That’s a quote from me there from my phone conversation with scoobymaniac  The issue here is not whether someone is intentionally advertising on the forum without paying…it’s the appearance that advertising can take place without paying the trader fee.
Let’s not get into this on this thread, it’s a ongoing issue for the club that has been debated many times.

Back on topic please!

back to topic, have a clifford on my type r cant take to the black jack function useful as it it.have a falcon pager alarm with remote start and turbo timer in my integra.the pager keyring unit is like a mobile phone in your pocket too large and it eats batteries.
i find the cheaper alarms the best like cobra and meta.as one member said it is down to the quality of the installer a lot of the time.thats what id go with and a hidden kill switch.
