Commercial STI?

Hi folks, just wanted to know if i take the back seats out of my car and fit it out as ill be using it for computer repairs and the like is it then possible to register the car as a commercial car?

yes but you will have to remove and weld up the seatbelts, and make a metal false floor to sit across the rear
they are gone really strict on it
the windows will have to be blackd out

yeah its exactly what i was thinking of doing as ill only be doing short hops so no need to invest in a commercial car and i have no need for rear seats , also how do i go about doing this and is there a price?

would u not buy a small van there very cheap at moment ,would be lighter on fuel and cheap tax, :ponder2:

Hello Qball,

There really would not be much of a point to doing this, the VRT is already paid on the car & commercial insurance is a lot more expensive.

Besides the conversion costs and subject to the revenue accepting the car to be a "commercial" it would be a lot of hassle for the very little reward ..... i.e a low motor tax rate.

Now a fresh import might stack up, again subject to revenue inspection / approval :ponder2:

Cheers,

Michael

Carroll and Roche had a white Bug eye sti for sale a year or 2 ago that had been converted to commercial , so it can and has been done , the commercial rate of road tax is cheaper but thats probably the only place you will save ,
Better idea to buy a small van like a vw caddy or the likes , cant beat the tdi's on economy , seen tdi caddy's goin for 2500 !!!!!

Although your doing short trips as with any business you need to be reducing your overheads, caddy makes more sense and you can claim VAT on your diesel.

i saw a supra twin turbo down as commercial not too long ago which made sense as 1200 odd euro tax on that but think it would be a lot of hassle for very little result on an impreza.

a lot of supra owners in ireland are considering doing this, as lets face it ,.. the back seats in a supra are fecking tiny anyway , and your saving a grand a year , on tax ...
and can still drive it under normal insurance , doesnt have to be commercial insurance

if you brought a 08 on impreza or somthing like it from eng or japan...clear it as comerical... 280 tax a year and i am sure the vrt might be cheaper...
