coolant level rises

Hi all

when i start my 00 Legacy B4, I hear a sloshing sound of water in the dashboard. obviously air trapped. I have noticed the level in the expansion bottle goes up, and also that the level in the header tank is down about 2 inches from normal. there also bubbles coming through the expansion bottle occasionally. I thought a head gasket problem and did a chemical test on the coolant in the expansion bottle, but it came back fine. also no mixing of oil and water.
I have tried changing the rad cap and have also tried to bleed the system. the car seems to heat up very quickly, but never overheats. it also does not appear to be loosing any coolant, rather it just ends up going to the expansion bottle which ends up way above the full mark. I know the car got a radiator and the rad that is in it has a small pipe outlet beside the rad cap which is blocked off with a screw. i believe the rad might be from a later model. Is it possible its drawing air in there??
Any insight would be welcomed, i dont want the coolant level to be low in the header tank which will probably lead to other problems
thanks

They all do that bubblin thing in the dash-just another legacy quirk. Sounds like you may have a little air in cooling system though-has the coolant been changed lately-bit of a pain to bleed it on subarus

Thanks for reply lad.
Coolant was changed when new rad was put in. They re defo a nightmare to bleed  .cant seem to get all the air out. Have the nct tomorrow and dont want to go in with the expansion bottle way above the full mark. Has anyone else come accross the bottle level going up.so much. Worried im gona do damage to head etc. Could it be a waterpump or stat issue. Again any help appreciated.

There are threads here about bleeding them if you use search function. I think one has something to do with parking on a slope and letting the car run with the header tank open-cant remember now but was certainly mentioned-also try a search on uk legacy
