Just got pulled over on my way home from work by the undercover bmw in portlaoise i had copped him behind me so was doing the speed limit but he pulled me over saying "it came up on the screen as having no tax" i had taxed it in May so all my discs are up to date and he was alright about it just checked them and had a quick look at my license and let me on my way but im not sure if he radio'd it in or if he has ANPR so was wondering if anyone knew if their using it

AFAIK there are a handfull of Garda cars equipped with it since last year.
It was on news last year, think they are all undercover traffic corps.

ok didnt realise that i heard rumours it was coming in but nothing after that its surprising cos i had marked cars behind me when the tax actually was out and didnt get stopped but this was the first time ive had the undercover behind me for a while so that could explain it

Any time you see a little black box on the boot lid of a patrol car, its reading your discs. Nasty but easy to spot

that feckin BMW...... :icon_twisted: didnt get me but still was expecting it at all.

but yea its been around at least a year now, the law have been flat out using it out of swords and coolock.

cheers havent noticed one before but with a heavily modified scooby i keep my discs up to date cos otherwise its just asking for trouble my tax was out for 2 weeks in May and i was bricking it driving around cos i know the car attracts a lot of attention,
there is always one going round Portlaoise 07 D reg i got pulled by it a few years ago speeding down the motorway on a provisional license with no l plates and no full driver with me your one driving was alright just did me for the speeding

haha thats gas , thats same beemer nearly caught my buddie today, he was travelling to work on his motorbike , on the M9 from mitchelstown towards clonmel .
he was doing an honest 70mph when this beemer flew past him , he pulled out and tucked in behind him , the needle rose past 80 , past 90 , over the ton ... this was grand he thought , nice flat out spin to work .. next thing the blue lights came on , his heart sank and his asshole went ten pence , twenty pence o0o0o0 .... he pulled back into the left lane , and off they shot .....

does anyone have any info on theese beemers , are they 520 , 530d ???

The one here i think says 520d on the back but wether or not they leave them standard is another question it can fairly move though

Is that BMW in portlaoise silver? If its the one i'm thinking off they stopped my dad before and didn't realise he's in a unmarked audi A6 garda car :hammerhead:

They had a 330d down my way a few years back , must have broke it up cause havent seen it in a long while ,

ohh seen a really strange cop car yesterday , was a wine coloured chevrolet on ww plates , had full set of blue lights on the dash and back window but no aerials visable ,

How can a non dublin reg car be a genuine cop car...don't they all have to be registered via garda headquarters in the Phoenix Park???

thats exactly what i thought when i seen the thing , it was by no means a fresh car either probably an 03/04 , most cop cars dont live that long , ive heard of cars that have been confiscated thru proceeds of crime been used as undercover cars but didnt believe it would happen either ,

Not any more.. I think as of last year they are now registering them in different counties! Thought I read something on it on here.. :ponder2:

Also saw an unmarked mondeo the other day with dealer reg plate surrounds and the sticker from the dealership in the back window!
Still a D reg though.

as far as i know most of the undercover units in wales have their cars specially tuned by the autosports division of the maker not sure about here though i hope they dont lol
