Guys i got stopped by the old bill this morning on my way to work you would think i robbed a bank or something the way they pulled me over they claim they saw me on my phone wich i wasnt they didnt like it when i questioned there eyesight anyway they then proceeded to check the usual tax license insurance nct all was ok apart from no nct but im booked in for friday so they asked me to produce now heres the the crazy part they told me that my exhaust was not standard and under legislation they can do me for it they told me that if i dont produce nct within 10 days that they are going to do me for no nct and the exhaust my question is is there some new rule about non standard exhausts mine is a kakimoto cat back 3 inch with a 4 inch box on it not really that loud imo i know there was talk about decible tests but as far as i know it has not been implemented yet :ponder2:
 
to the best of my knowledge nothing has been brought in for this yet man,ah they must have been in a pisser because they hadnt there little camera crew with them,coz there always nice as pie on traffic blues:D.let us know how ya get on.
 
theres no laws yet on the exhaust so your grand there, but if it doesnt pass on emissions in the nct thats what they will play on, you will need a cat to pass and once it passes go down and rub it in there faces.

after the shite there putting on traffic blues they deserve what they get

It has a cat so thats not a problem where is he getting this exhaust notion from he told me he knew about cars and drove a levin himself he came out with this cos i tried to say look i didnt put the exhaust on and that it was on it when it came from japan he was adamant he could do me as for the traffic blues really am LMFAO at the fresh out of templemore bangaurd who pulls the overweight rig and gets told by the driver im taking my half hour teabreak before i bring it to the wiegh station :clap:
 
hate to burst your bubble lads ,

but non standard exhausts are technically illegal ...as they are modifications to the cars sound deadening device ...
they can bring you to court for it, and a judge will make you take it off ..
they can now do you for a noise pollution fine as well thanks to "john fuckface gormley" ... 150 notes on the spot fine
 
Who is to say what is standard and whats not ? I have seen quite a few standard looking twin pipe boxs that dont look as obvious as the the big ass 4 and 5 inch yokes and they make plenty of noise so is it just at the gardas discretion ?
 
at the moment it is very much up to the gardas discretion ...
but i know a few places around dublin and wicklow are using handheld dB meters now ...
thing is they havent a fucking clue how to use them, and i know of few people that have been forced to ut back on standard pipes by judges ..
ill dig out the legislation tomorrow just so's ya can be sure im not spoofing you .
but afaik the limits are 74dB for cars under 200bhp , and 80dB for cars over
 
its not illegal to have an uprated exhaust, what is against the law is excessive noise , they can do ya for disturbin da peace ,
the way the test for this with their db metre is a bit dodge i reckon , both myself and Nick spec c were tested in Arklow by the local sergant
on the road side , they reved the car to about 3500 rpm approx and took the reading from the exhaust itself approx 1 metre from tail pipe ,they took 2 readings from my car and averaged them out , my car was 3 or 4 db below da level allowed not totaly sure what the limit is but silverbullit aint far off the mark der , was no mention of 2 different levels as he suggests ,

my problem would be the testing procedure , been tested on a public road with traffic etc wouldn't give accurate reading ?

, surely the sound is amplified on a street because of echoes ?

probably loads of loop holes in it anyway ,

was a dB or 2 over it , copper was sound fella anyway :shock2: he actually stopped me first and ASKED would i mind testin it to show me how it worked and if nick wanted to c if his car would pass to call up to him in the station,

he actually said it was young lads tearin round in civics and colts that they would be targettin cause der a menace
 
We often do decibel tests in work before releasing new products. The test has to be carried out in dead silence, otherwise it is inaccurate. If you are outdoors then everything will have an effect on the reading, including trees blowing in the wind, the wind itself and thats before you take into account other traffic on the road passing by.

There's no way it could be accurate by the side of the road so I'm sure if you took it to could you could well use proof to support your defence
 
the best thing to do is do your nct and if it passes and even if it doesnt pass but passes on emissions bring the nct or fail sheet down to them and tell them they can do a noise level test on it,most likely it will pass and what can they say, if it does pass get a guard to fill out a form saying it passed and get him to stamp it,then when they pull you again and ask about the exhaust , shove the form in his face and tell him to fu*k off

I think it registered something like 87-88 db at the time :icon_rolleyes:
as i went down of my own accord for the test they said when i get it sorted to come back and they would re-test :icon_grin:
i bought a bung for it but i seem to have forgotten to go back :doh:
the best thing was when they were testing the guy holding the db reader jumped when the exhaust went pop :whistle:

I asked the guard if the car passed the nct with that exhaust on it did than mean it was ok his response was no the nct do not test for noise and was still within his power to do me and just to clear it up he told me once i produce evidence of taking the test that that would suffice he made it clear to me that if i was not telling the truth about taking the test on friday he would do me for both and that even if it passsed if he caught me with it still on the car he would do me hope that clears it up a bit.
 
I'm sure it over read on the db test when she back fired!

lads my legacy still has the standard box on it i wanted it a bit louder so after it passed nct i disconnected the electronic flap in the backbox thats kept it fairly quite under 3500rpm i must say its much louder and pops much more which i think is down to the stainless steel centre section only thing is im not sure if this is standard on the GT-B (stainless steel centre section)?does only the turbos have cats on them as theres none on the the centre section?
its due an nct next month and am thinking if they rev it hard it will pop like crazy could i fail over this?
 
Wont fail on popping!
They just check emissions,
Cats would usually be immediately after the turbo's in the down pipes,
