Crumlin kids hospital in need of donations

, Anyone who has done any fund raising for Crumlin probably got the letter and know,
but for those that havent im just posting to make aware..

Its a sad day when you see any hospital writing in desperation, especially a Kiddies hospital, basically they need money asap, There specialist Cancer unit is over crowded, old and in need of repair and maintenance..
Hopefully no one will ever have to enter this hospital with their kid, relatives kid or friends kid.. but just bare in mind it needs to be there for kids if they need it.

Im not going to say anymore than that,
if anyone is interested, ring Crumlin or drop in etc etc and they will send out letter or organise the donation etc etc, it can be once off donation, monthly donation etc etc

This country is the pits, you would imagine that the healthcare of the nation would be of primary importance when it comes to government spend. I realise most money goes to health budget but is it enough and is it used wisely enough.

I don't think the need for private health insurance should exist. Basically if your sick you should be seen to in order of urgency not whether you can pay or not.

Thank god I have never needed crumlin but since my son was born any time I see a collection I will donate what I can

I'm waiting on a bed since Tue 3rd in St Vincents. It's lucky I'm not too sick this time. Healthcare is a mess. Government waste so much money

@ ken how come they're looking for donations is it that there funding was cut as i know they were trying to close the hospital a while back correct me if im wrong on that i heard it somewhere before
i only ask as i dont know
@ anto i have to agree with you mate its only when you read or hear about things like this you realise how piss poor this place really is,i can never understand why they take so much funding away from the hse and let the hospitals so on suffer, especially childrens as they are the ones who really need it,to think all the money and taxes been collected in this country os going out of it to repay the bond holders its sickening

This article, only published 2 weeks ago will answer the question Gordon.

From a personal point of view the amount I could contribute would be a drop in the ocean, but would love to get involved with some form of fundraising here. Could the committee consider this for the charity event this year?

Brian most are in same boat, I'd love to be able donate millions, thousands, even hundreds but I can't, if I can spare few quid I give it to them, there is options for a rolling 7 euro per month donation of your credit card etc etc. It's the woman at home that got the letter so I had a quick read through it and sure within first few lines I had the jist of what's wanted. Sick to think tha repaying bankers is a priority over a kids health

@ brian cheers for that
@ ken you're right that repaying bankers is priority and not the kids which will be the future

Its definitely one of the charities I had earmarked as a possibility. Having 2 small kids, it certainly does appeal to me and probably most others here now too

Vincent's is a joke, my missus was sent into A&E 5-6 weeks ago now, waited for 4 hours, got told to come back in a week for a scan. Went back the next week for the scan and was told to go back to A&E as the nurse/doctor who did the scan was quite worried about her. 6 hours later, she was seen for 2 mins, told to go home and I sh*t you not, they said, "if you start to turn yellow, your liver is failing so you'll need to come back in". Was told the operation would be scheduled for about 6 weeks time and the details would be sent to her GP. As it stands, the doctor still hasn't received anything from the hospital :angry1: :angry1:

Luckily we decided 2 weeks ago that we would make a private appointment in the Heritage which we have today and will have the operation within the fortnight. Thank Christ we have private healthcare but I feel so sorry for those that don't and have to deal with this sort of sh*t.

government should be ashamed of themselves....
i'll sooner donate to the hospital before i'll ever pay a property tax!!!

Was suggested at first committee meeting

as said already the governments prioritys are a joke my little one had to go to crumlin after she was born for an op on her kidney and we go back 3 or 4 times a year you can see going in they desperately need new equipment but the docs and nurses do a very good job with whats available to them i also think it would be nice if our charity event this year was for them

Did government money go into the Aviva? not sure it did

There was Dave.

According to Wikipedia the build cost was €410 million & government input was €191 million.

I thought the mix of funding was 33% from each of the IRFU, FAI & Government but obviously those figures are somewhat inaccurate.

I think there is an overly simplistic view here that we should have spent the money on childcare/hospitals instead of infrastructure like a football stadium etc. Although I agree that Crumlin & pretty much every aspect of our healthcare system is terminally ill (if you pardon the pun) you've got to remember the visible & invisible benefits that these projects bring.

How many people were employed in the building of the stadium? How many people continue to be employed on match days in catering, stewarding etc etc. What about the travelling fans influx & booking rooms in hotels, eating in restaurants & drinking in the local boozers. The Garda overtime bill is paid by the stadium for the match days in question. There are corporate events & meetings happening there every day of the week.
Then there is the social aspect - a place for us to go to follow whatever team we support.

There is far more money being wasted in welfare fraud, fat cat payments & paperwork for the sake of paperwork from Irelands annual €70 billion expenditure bill than the money invested in a football stadium.
