Dealer Snobbery

From reading what a couple members said about some sales people not giving them a second look or passing underhand comments, same happened to me today in a main dealer. Wasn't Subaru but won't name names.

It should be like the Q in the barbers. You know who's behind you but not exactly who's before you.

I was only going in to parts to pick up some oil and a filter but there was nobody at the desk and only two sales people.

I got over looked twice by couples and suits and ties. Boiled my piss. Most likely because I was in a hoody and Canterbury trackies and runners.

Eventually got sent over to a counter with staff and they ended up not having the oil that I had asked on the phone did they stock! Waste of a journey! Then to add insult to injury tried charging me €15 for an oil filter when I was told €10 on the phone.

Most likely I won't be going back.

Anyone else have any stories? Any members in sales dealing with time wasters?

That's head wrecking John .

Been lucky with the dealerships I've given my business too . Carroll and roche deserve special mention I think , even if I'm only in for an oil filter all the lads say hello and know me by name . And I'm by no means a regular customer . That's good business in my book .

I won't put up with the likes of your experience . I just walk .

I'm thankfully lucky to have a nice Subaru dealership just 5 minutes away from me. Always knows my name, has a tea or coffee ready to put into my hand while I'm speaking with him. Last few times, he even washed the car before returning it to me.

I work with customers everyday and its easier just to deal with them correctly no matter how bad they are or how presentable they look. With good service as you said, they will be a repeat customer.

Well the new Skoda Superb with Golf R engine looks well tasty.

I got the same at An Audi dealer, went in, to look for someone in parts counter to buy a door lock, in my casual Saturday combats and t-shirt. All the people at reception desk, and customers with the loafers and looking at me like i must be lost. Parts counter guy was sound enough and even wanted to come out and have a look at the s6, asked me to start it up and give it a rev, it happened to be parked with the rear facing towards the showroom glass window. gave it a proper good revving for about 20 seconds setting off half the car alarms there. Stick that up ur pipe smoking 2.0 TDI hole! Cant be the sound of a good ol v10 with Milltek exhaust!

Im sure the parts guy was told of his manager for letting that kind of behaviour carry on outside their beautiful showroom, feck them!

I was very nearly going to and when they tried fobbing off an oil that I didn't ask for and then tell me they don't do the oil I asked for over the phone, I wished I did.

As do I. Pisses me off to know end. No excuses for shoddy customer service.
Skoda dealers
 Spot on!
They think they're vw dealers at this stage :lolpoint:
That's where I was sent next door to parts.

Proper order Dan!

Faith in humanity was restored when I went to Specsavers afterward for my contacts checkup. Greeted the minute my foot stepped in the door.

Something weird did happen to me at main dealers as well. I was not overlooked but was told they do not offer OEM parts to public any more and if I wanted OEM part I had to leave my car with their service shop to be fitted.

I asked where to get a genuine filter in this case and was told off to go and get a 3rd party in motor factors if i dont want an original to be fitted at their shop.

That was first, this dealer has always had been my place for original part for my daily but not any more unfortunately :/

Subaru? That's a weird one! Plenty places you can get OEM filters. Irish and UK suppliers.

:clap:As graham says There's good and bad dealers everywhere is a matter of finding a good 1 and sticking with them

Firstly I'm not in the car trade,

Never been a fan of main dealers over the years, nearly always bought privately either here or the UK.

But in fairness I think in recent years the Irish dealers have become very professional. I had dealings with both skoda/vw and Honda main dealers in the last three years and my experience was great.

Injectors went in a vrs diesal I had, covered by warranty, free car provided for a week no issues whatsoever even though I had never dealt with them before.

My wives Honda accord egr pipe cracked, again covered by warranty by Honda no bother ,no charge or proof of service history looked for,

My experience with the garages got them our business, I found service/parts staff very good and helpful.

Definitely hit and miss. I've had great experiences with Honda dealer in Ashtown for parts for the DC5 then opposite end of the scale altogether in a different main dealer.

Just a matter of trial and error.

I use to always get this when I went anywhere for parts for my 535. Never dressed up to collect the parts and they were always like oh what do you drive a 520 I suppose.

Their jaw always hit the floor when I said what it was then their attitude changed. Annoyed me at the start but then I didn't care about what they said.

No that's 316 drivers. Probably why they're twice the insurance as a 116.

I was in a Mercedes Dealer with a Mate once
we waited a hour to see a sales rep just standing around
ordered a New Merc S350 with roughly 20k of extras private plate and everything
heard nothing from them after that day
gets a call 2 months later
your cars here
thats very funny
because im in my 735i at the moment
you can stick it up your arse and hung up
bmw dealer then sold him several bmw and to family and friends
so probably ended up 10+ cars because he rang him back etc.
Member on here used to work there and the sales guys name is Frank
That was during the Great Builders Boom when we where all property Gods
Im guessing if you rang now they would be more accomodating but sure you never know
Personally I dont have a problem with Dealers
I just dont go in to them :icon_biggrin:

and regarding image
I was pointed out a man in a anorak carrying a lidl bag
like a roy cropper coronation street type a few years back walking down the road
turns out he was one of Irelands Richest Men

Definitely true re old money. The one and only Des Kelly always came in to McDonald's for a coffee. Very modest man. Quiet but plenty of opinions once you get chatting with him.

Then my dad's old boss. Multi millionaire and wouldn't polish a pair of shoes or even pay someone to do it for him. Vans and truck were old but maintained. He'd buy a new Renault laguna every 4 years and that was him.
