hello there....
anybody ever buy carparts or anything from U.S????
wondering if you got hit for import duties???
some great stuff for cars over there but not worth it if its gonna cost a fortune in fees!!!
:dontknow: :dontknow:

If you can get the place you are guying from the declare it as a gift you normally don't have to pay duty...

got some Abercrombie gear from the states got stung with a 200 euro tax invoice for 500 dollars of clothing, FEDEX are the worst for charging the sales tax, and they will send you debt collectors notices if you don't pay! :new_puppy_dog_eyes:

:icon_omg: :icon_omg:
looking at stuff that will total 1500-1750 dollars so cant really pass as a gift i guess stephen!!!
@dan
that was an expensive shopping trip for clothes!!!
i was hit for buying a hks ssqv from new zealand a while ago and funny it was fedex who billed me for 40 euro !!!

I had to pay nearly 50 quid for the full set of black lights from U.S a few months ago.

Paid in the an post collection place in kilbarrack when i picked up the package..

They had opened the box to see what was inside aswell

Are they allowed to open your stuff? I wouldn't have thought they were!!

I've gotten motorcycles exhausts and stereos and other stuff sent from the states and if sent USPS every so often i'd have a customs charge but not every time.

Fedex on the other hand charge EVERYTIME and only bill you for the customs charge 4 - 6 weeks after they delivered to you :angry1: I even had an item sent as gift and they said i owed customs charges, i refused to pay it and they just stopped sending letters. Chancers!!

They can open anything they like, they're customs

You could get lucky but if you are buying i would budget for the import duty just in case, so at least you know you have the money to pay should you get charged and then if you don't happy days.

but its not a set rate is it??? ...is it 20% ???
the guy i'm dealing with said without me even asking him......that he would mark the parcels to avoid import duty and undervalue the stated value!!!!
not sure what he means

21.5% isnt it, its basically VAT...

He will mark the value down so that if it does get stopped then they will only tax you using the value on the parcel. Say you paid 2000 for it, he will mark it as 1000 and you only have to pay tax on the 1000

The us state the contents of parcels and also the monetary value of the goods on the shipping label.if they are good they state a very low value on this label so tax is lower.but insurance will only cover the lower value.thats why shippers are slow to put lower value on goods.tip get seller to mark as sample.i've seen tyres delivered this way no problem.

Thats it robbie, i got stuff before and asked the seller to devalue the invoice value on the shipping label and he did.......after i asked him very nicely. Saved a nice few quid on duty, as you said 21.5% of the value .

Have ordered a 'sport' grille & pedal covers from subarugenuineparts.com, never paid any duty etc, cant remember who delivered them.

My brother imported a APR wide arch kit from the states around 2-3 years back , the customs crowd got hold of it once it landed in dublin airport , the kit cost 4500 euro at the time but i think they couldn't prove what it was worth as no invoices etc were in the package , so they charged him in the region of 400 euro to release the kit , Surely didn't pay 21% but think he just got lucky due to there lack of knowledge on the kits value and he's a jammy little git ,

I have got stuff for a boat from Canada and never paid tax on €500 worth of stuff. The way around the tax is that if the goods are second hand there is no tax. Get the company sending the goods to 'dirty' the product and say its 2nd hand!

Think it has been answered above but all you do is get the supplier
to unwrap and remove all documents , price tags etc ........

and simply post over as a second hand item !!!
