Just on the way home and a young lad in a stinky 03 golf putting out a heap of black smoke decides he has what it takes. Now I will give it to him it was dam quick for a smoke stack and would have raped a standard wrx but them things cant have a good life spand being screwed up that much. Whats the country coming to, bring back the starlets at least you could see when passing them.

why do the derv burners always think they have the legs on an a scooby , every young lad in an audi or golf think they are the stig taking on the world

It will need a new turbo now after you pushing him up the road!
They tend to eat them!
Oh and a clutch and flywheel.

So basically you wrote the golf off! :multijump:

Ha i think it was wrote off before i started cause the amount of smoke was unreal and it was louder than my car ....... :smokesubaru

Ha ha good man
Thank you for removing another one from our roads :icon_pray:

Love my STI... but lads... food for thought:
I can tell you that have had several 2.5TDI's from Audi and VW... get them chipped and little that keeps up with them once you are moving (in gear acceleration brilliant)... Once had a dice with a mid '80s 911 from Hemel Hempstead (North London M25) all the way to Harwich... We both ended up at the Stena (we were both late after being stuck in jam for ages)... was talking afterwards and he couldn't believe TDI kicked the @$%&X out of his 911. He deffo wasn't holding back he said but couldn't match either acceleration or top end of a '97 A6 2.5TDI with some mild tuning. :icon_lol:

My 3.0TDI A4 is plenty quick too and currently only running stock 233Bhp/460Nm... but a chip in that and good for 292Bhp/680Nm and good for 5 sec 0-62mph (and 3.0TDI bullet proof at that power as long as you service it every 15k kms). :icon_headbang:
If you're gonna go to the dark side and run DERV... might as well be quick one. :lol2

Fully agree with the annoyance of Golf Tdi crowd (or the 320d wannabees) with bad rich tunes who drive like lemmings on meth...

Bullet proof! I fear you may eat those words someday!
I hope not but nothing in the vag range is bullet proof....

Well maybe a T4 or an old Jetta! Maybe!

There's a supercharged VR6 bora knocking around that I've heard minces EVO's up to 100mph

Want to see that chipped 3.0 TDI at the ring and compare maintenance bills few Years later with the same mileage Dec`s car Has .

Said this before... But an ex- diesel mechanic friend won't touch anything short of a new diesel with zero miles as he reckons anything over 60-80k miles and they become money pits.

Both his and his wife's cars are petrol... And he'd do reasonable mileage. He believes running costs out way the good mileage advantage when it comes to diesels.

Also a lot to do with the treatment they get. A lot of diesels, especially the "hotter" models tend to get the sh*t ragged out of them

Just from my experience...

VAG Diesels:
- Bad tunes kill them...
- Driving a Diesel like it is a petrol engine kills them (don't rev it to the red line - diesels aren't designed for that)
- Lots of short journeys where the engine never gets up to temp for long (big issue in Ireland now with every Tom, Dick and Harry buying Diesel due to the "Greens" meddling with the car tax system)
- VAG "Long Life Servicing"... definitely kills them stone dead. :icon_hang:

- Stay away from the VAG v6 2.5TDI over 100k unless had a full rebuild... had several and all had issues -- mainly related to LLS and they're hard on juice too.
- 5 Cylinder 2.5TDI from VAG is way more economical and strong, very strong (had two of them, one with 400k kms on original engine and know person who bought who put another 120k on top and the other had 250k kms when I sold it and was perfect - no smoke, no oil use etc).

- 3.0TDI v6 is a good motor, hardy enough, very smooth, understressed, pretty economical... just need to forget about VAG service intervals and stick to 15k kms and still use the good oil.
- 2.0TDI is not as hardy as the 1.9PD and stay away from the 2.0TDI 170bhp version as they have huge oil consumption issues even from brand new.

Diesels are way more economical for high mileage when you add all costs together but you need to service them.
Most cars, petrol or diesel, in Ireland aren't worth "£$^&"@ after 100k miles due to bad roads and poor servicing
