Diff noise in 4th and 5th only

Ok here goes i had a really bad shudder when i had my clutch changed. Shudder has passed but im left with what sounds like the rear diff rumbling. Heres the rub i only hear it in 4th and 5th gear. The cowboy who done the clutch said he spent 2 hours trying to force"his words" the gearbox away from the engine. Rusty dowels. Noise deffo coming from rear. PS if your getting any work done to your car around Ballybrittas Co Laois get in touch.
Any help appreciated.

Did he not take the pin out from the clutch fork before removing? Once everything disconnected corre takes 30secs to remove the box no effort at all really
 
I explained exactly how to do it to the guy. Couldnt do it myself at the time. Im wondering if the shudder colasped the torque washer colar thing on the pinion gear. I will never let anybody touch a car of mine again. Ontop of that i got it back with no oil in the box and you have to be real gentle sliding it into 2nd and its poped out of 5th a few times.

Sorry to hear that man , did you skim the flywheel before fitting the new clutch? Funny that there is problems with the gearbox after a clutch change being honest. Are you sure its your gearbox?
 
Thats the thing im sure the noise is coming from the rear diff not the box. On the upside the STI backbox i got from you is just dandy.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but if the noise is only is certain gears its the box and not the diff. I have the same problem with my own at the minute 3rd and 4th are noisey.Who did the work? pm me if you like to keep it off the forum
 
Thats whats doing me head im sure its the rear diff im hearing but only in high gears and only in throttle off. I suppose the easiest thing is to change the diff first allso theres more pressure on the pinion in low gears so that could be taking up any slack between pinion and diff. I stand to be corrected on all points.
