Different power outputs? - Impreza.

Been looking at bugs and when I use the history checks I'm getting several models.

I get WRX 214bhp, WRX T, WRX 242bhp & WRX.

Was there a range of engines tuned/mapped differently on the ECU from the factory or did they all come at a standard power output figure? Maybe different engine components?

Im not really sure the 214bhp one could be the english one and the 242bhp could be the jap this is only a guess

Its depends on what version car you are talking about. List the model numbers or year of cars you are looking at.

Sounds about right. From scoobypedia.co.uk: The New Age model was introduced to the public in 2000. The first place that the new MY2001 was seen was at the NEC Motorshow in Birmingham, England on 19th to 29th October. There were three models shown, the new turbo with 215BHP power, 292NM torque, a 2.0 litre model called the GX with 123BHP and a 1.6 litre 94BHP 5 door only model called the TS. All feature 4 wheel drive. The WRX is very similar to the Japanese WRX but the fuel mapping for 95RON is probably the main reason for the drop in power.

So if you were to get a 242bhp Jap your options are use octane booster or get it remapped for Irish fuel and lose power?

Sounds about right. It was 00 & 01 that were coming back as 214bhp and 02+ was coming back with more.

That's what I was wondering, was there different WRX models brought out in the same year or are they all same engine, turbo, injectors, intercooler etc. and the only reason for the power difference is the way they're mapped for fuel?

Say if I was looking at WRX's from 2002 and I had the pick of 3, all on Irish plates, and I give them a background check and number 1 comes in as a WRX T and doesn't tell me the power output, number 2 comes back in at 212bhp WRX Turbo and number 3 comes in at 242bhp Turbo WRX.

How do you know if it's Irish, UK or Jap? The more I look the more confused I get :shock2: Would it be the same with STI models?

For example....
Subaru Impreza WRX T

See why this a complete mindfuck :icon_hang:

It's worth noting that the output of JDM cars is measured using 100 RON fuel. 240 in Japan is approximately 215 using the petrol available over here so even if you buy something at auction in Japan claiming 2 zillion BHP, by the time you have it remapped to run on 95 RON, it's going to be lot less.

And the only way of finding out if it's JDM is Mr. Logbook?

Speedo is usually a good giveaway - max 180 and in Km/h. I think there are other trim differences as well. Assuming logbook is legit, that to.
