Middle Lane Hogs
Hi guys,

Was up in Dublin for the weekend so for a bit of a break away, did a bit of xmas shopping and that. But one thing dawned on me, people in dublin pay way over price for everything! Clothes, house hold goods, hardware etc, every shop we went into, espically in the Liffey Valley shoppin centre! :naughty:

Even when we did buy something, went up to the counter and the ones serving us gave us as much attendition as you would to road kill! Basically didnt give a S**t about serving us :icon_mad: :icon_mad: Very rude and generally unhelpfull! Not a great advertisment IMO to intice people back to their store!

My hats off to all you dub residence on here, you all must have great patience cause I was going F**Kin mental with the carry on! And that was just over a weekend!

Had to laugh at M & S, I asked for a paper bag that was sitting beside the counter, wanted to put a few packets of nuts into it, and the till assistant said, 'we can't give them out'!
I had a bit of crack with her Ill tell you, F**kin Pathetic!

Rant over

Hope I didnt offend anyone!

OK Master Smarty Pants!

@ Coopster,

Your absolutly right, was in China recently and the service you receive, even in the bogs in a night club is unrivaled by ANY where in Ireland I would imagine. They'd nearly help you go...! Ha ha ha . But your absolutly right customer service is basically non-exsistant in Eire, its a damn shame tbh.

But one of the points I was trying to make was that everything is way over priced in Dublin, simple body warmer - €54.99!! Get real, not even a recognisable brand!
Even had to pay to park in the hotel we were staying in, absolute joke, when did all this become acceptable!

As I said already, fair play to you all in Dublin, I dont think I would be cut out for living there, definitly wouldnt have the patience of temper to live there.

Anyway rant over,

When things were good people saw opportunities to make money. The Irish people had money combined with a carefree attitude so never really complained I guess. Now things are tighter, well its a different story now.

What did that skank Mary Harney say, "Shop around".
But WTF do you do if every shop is trying to screw you over.
Rip off Republic all the way lads.
Mrs did all her xmas shopping off ebay and online from the UK.

Went to woodies yesterday to get decorations for christmas and have to say I was shocked at the prices. The few things I did pick up, I ended up throwing back and thinking to myself fu*k it, I'm going up the north. Rip off republic at its best :angry1: :angry1:

I know what your saying lads, I heard some thing on the radio yesterday that made me lmfao,
a plea from the guvament asking all rep of Ireland to remember there duty to the country and shop here and not to go up north...... So its cool for us to get taxed up the wozoo and charge us for sucking in air but it's not ok for us to try and save a few quid and put more food in the press and maybe just maybe save christmas for the children in our own houses - god won't some one think of the children ;( .

Ok that's me done ;) NEXT

Fook the goverment...shower of fecking cowboys.. :new_2gunsfiring_v1: :new_2gunsfiring_v1:

The north it is for Crimbo shopping and everything, my folks head up every other week to shop and love it!!!

Ya your making someone else richer while your getting poorer
[/quote]

We are always going to get poorer in this sh1t hole country, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Why is it that social welfare and the health service are in the firing line for this budget? and on top of that the so called mini budget that hit everyone with income levy and pension levy, Did no one notice the polititians that tell everyone "we need to cut back and tighten our belts" are the same ones that are payed €300 grand a year! You don't see them taking a pay cut! They don't even notice that there is a recession happening!

I don't see why anyone would bother putting the money back into Irish owned shops as the Irish Government doesn't do it! The Port Tunnel and many other Billion Euro projects all go to foreign comapnies. Its a real "do as I say, not as I do" attitude.

I can't fault anyone for trying to get the best prices around. We wouldn't have to go up north if the Government lowered VAT instead of increasing it. The UK lowered VAT to encourage sales and we raised it to try get more money off people. For example: you sell a bottle of water for €2, instead of lowering it to €1.50 to sell more and in the end make more, the government think if they make it €3 they'll make more. It doesn't work like that.

Rant Over

Rip off Ireland is here to stay :angry1:

Just how expensive and intollerant this country is shocks me when i go back up north to buy things.

Recently my wife and I were in ToysRus in Lisburn buying stuff for the babys room, the usual Crib, changing unit, blankets, baby monitor etc.

We bought it all there as the same crib that I got for 70 stg up there would have cost me 140Euro here (fact), the changing unit was 40 Euro higher priced than the stg price. the baby monitor was 100Euro higher priced than the stg price I paid on the day..... Yes I got it on special offer but there was only 10 or 15 quid extra off it.... how can someone justify 100 Euro in a price difference for the same (Identical) product?
My parents live in the North Still so its real easy for me to go up there do the shopping stay in their place for the night then head home again. it saves driving almost 3 hours to lisburn from my house then 3 hours home again. The reason I go to Lisburn is I miss all the southern traffic and the overcrowding that is in Newry. I have the choice of the same (pretty much) shops if not more and slightly cheaper prices again cause allot of the shops in Newry have realised they can make a small bit of extra proffit due to the number of southerners who are still saving a small fortune.

Another thing about shopping up there is the Customer Service ya get. The girl that was helping us look for things in the shop that day could not do enough for us. They offered to get someone to help me load the car and everything. They told us, "dont get that brand, there is the same product and the same quality cheaper over there" etc. they genuinely wanted to make sure we got everything we needed and didnt overspend on it.
When will people in this country cop on that if ya want to make money, look after your frickin customers.
