Great News!!!!!!!!!!!

Time to get cracking on that decat and remap so!

Is that the Maxol on the other side of Carr's hill Gav? Unfortunately one of the most expensive petrol stations around!

I'm not so sure the decat route is worth it anymore. With this talk of annual ncts for cars over 10 years I'm thinking sports cat is the way forward.

Reminds me of the day when electricity came to our home place in Kerry (1998)!!!

How much work is involved in swapping out a decat for a standard downpipe? :ponder2:

A few bolts, thats all. But sometimes they get rusty and seize and can be a pr*ck to get off!

Only way to go... but pricey!!

Weld a second cat into the centre section and take an hour to change it out each year, a lot cheaper than a sports cat and you still have your power, I'm thinking thats what i'll do anyway... That way there's no messin around with the downpipe and seized bolts on the turbo

If it's that straight-forward then surely the power gain would outweigh any inconvenience in having to swap them once a year?

Forgive the ignorant questions, I know feck all about decats etc

AFAIK they need to be positioned near the heat of a turbo to work effectively Robbie as the core needs to be very hot before they begin to function.

its not that easy john!!!

i love theway lads say "its only a few bolts" and there the lads that have never done it.

it would take up to 3 hours to do on a standard car if nothing went wrong.

you have two nut/bolts joining the down pipe to the centre section that arnt to bad but you have to jack up the car to get under neath it,so it has to be safe!!!!!!!
then you have two nut/bolts holding the down pipe to the gear box
then you have to take out the intercooler and the turbo heat shield and then take out the sensor at the top of the downpipe, then you have the 5 nut/bolts that hold the down pipe to the turbo, some come off grand, some dont, which can be bitch, one you have to get from under the car which isint easy either.

you might need a new gasket each time to do it to and repeat this to fit the cat pipe back in. so not just a few bolts.

its not to bad on my car as i have a fmic and no heat shield but it would still take me 2 hours to swap a down pipe and i have a garage for the weather and all the tools to do it.

my next car will have a cat or a sports cat if we have to nct them every year

True Jamie, but if you give it a good warm up at high revs off boost, it should warm it up enough and then throw a bit of diptane in the tank and you're laughing. The B4's will pass with only the cat in the centre section anyway afaik so should be the same for imprezas, I would have just added the second one to be sure as its not that expensive to weld it in. At least you don't have to go messing with the downpipe.
