How many of you bought from new treated the car as it should be didn't red line it, regular oil and filter changes and running on right fuel...you can't really tell the reliability of a car unless its bought from new and service intervals followed.
If you look at JD power surveys for any model of Subaru they always feature highly in UK and Australia and the US.
The problem in this country is 70-80% of scoobies here have been Pre owned in a different country and most have seen their best. They come here and are rallied on sh!t fuel and they get a bad rep for reliability...compared to what? EVO's are just as bad if not worse ..you cant come from a bullet proof vtec running 100 bhp per litre get into a scooby with a flat four running 140bhp per litre rev the sh1t out of it and expect it to last.
I wouldn't say build quality is a strong point in Subaru's but the Ej20 has won records for high speed endurance

I think a part of the problem is that people dont do their homework on these cars. Buy them, drive the heck out of them because there are rally car....as soon as it goes bang they spread the word that subarus have chocolate engine....you know the sort.

You can map them and service them regularly with the right stuff, this only greatly reduces the chances of anything going wrong. Do none of that and its just asking for trouble. a

Niall.

if it helps the cause i should also say that by bottom end went after pulling off the motorway after a good 5 minute top speed run........

UK Spec car mapped now for 2 yrs and 136000 miles on her and still goes like stink, regular services and top quality oil etc etc....

00 Irish Turbo, 132,000 miles, regular service every 5 or 6k miles, still going, stong touch wood.

first irish owner, bought car with 77 on the clock. gave it a full service incl all belts. only the best goes into it.

Im amazed at the Irish/UK results on this poll, I have owned 2 of them in the past and completely reliable, I did change the MAF when I bought the MY00 Classic as a precaution but not because there was anything wrong. I was more wary of the Jap sti I had but having said that, that was reliable also.
