engine knocking?

is it just me or is there always a slight knocking sound from legacy engines?or maby just mine?just put a fresh engine in it i imported direct from japan,still a slight knocking espically when cold?maby i have a slight problem somewhere or is this normal for subarus?car drives fine,its a 01 b4 twin turbo autH and its not the big end by the way!!!

personally i always think there is - everyone ive heard even an imperza has a slight knock sound.

also bad spark plug can cause knocking too - one went on me few months bad.


the knockin use to annoy me alot cos i always thought something was wrong until i was told otherwise - 1yr 2months later imagine engine is still running 100%

mine doesnt knock

when you say a "fresh" engine(which a few people around keep saying) do you mean new or second hand.

it could be piston slap as you say it happens espically when cold but it shouldnt.

what oil are you using in it??

second hand engine with 72000klm. Not sure what oil is in it but it needs changing soon!!!will new oil cure piston slap if it is the problem?
