as above guys i am thinking of buying a 98 impreza shell that needs engine and running gear and possibly a few small other bits.the question is will the engine out of my 99 impreza fit straight in wiring and so on or is there any major differencesin the two.all info greatly appreciated
 
same dash and that so miten be 2 much to change i put full engine and dash out of a v6 type r in v3 5dr for a mate while back
 
If the 98 is a v5 than no problem,
but if its a v4... that could be a ball ache... v4 heads and inlet are different as in you cant fit you v5 inlet onto v4 heads... so wiring is not going to be plug and play.
Ive never done the conversion, but id imagine your either looking at messing with wires, messing with making a v5 inlet match up by welding it to v4 inlet base, or fitting your v5 heads to v4 block
 
your car was an irish one also Gordon
maybe that will make a difference with the loom or something if the shell is a jap ?
not to sure maybe someone else can clarify
 
cheers guys for the feedback im not too sure if the shell is a v4 or v5 so will have to find out,i need to know if my engine will drop straight in one lump,does anyone know for definite ?
 
A shell is a shell.......

old dash vs new dash mounting points different.

But if new dash new dash and fully loom transfered then no issue. As in loomed v4 bringing v4 engine with it. Same if v5.


Wat is reason behind this move?
 
the car has the new dash same as the 99 but seen as its a 98 would i need to swap over the 99 loom with my 99 engine,cheers dave for the reply the reason for this move is i wrote my own car off a while back and seen a shell almost complete for small money and was wondering could i swap my engine over without any hassle thanks
 
You can really be advised untill you tell us if the shell car is v5 or not... big difference if its v4.. is there a loom and ecu in the shell??
Jap and irish v5 have some small wiring differences that will need sorting, cam and crank signal wires need swapping for one and also i think there is some fuel pump wiring difference, again staright forward but need adressing if fitting ... Jap engine into UK shell and loom, irish engine into jap shell and loom, swapping looms and ecu etc etc....
We really need to know what you actually have and plan on using.. all engines will physically fitbut getting them wired up and running can be the issue
 
@jamie i hope to have it sorted soon mate its dragging on now and i have my eye on something else
@ ken the car is a v4 irish car but i think if im gonna buy the car id change my loom over into the new shell as it will rule out all the little problems cheers guys for all the help and info given
