EXHAUST HEADERS... CHEAP ONES ON EBAY...?

@ Ken... Did some further research last night and as you and Richard said.... best leaving left side more or less alone other than maybe giving it a very light port & polish just to smooth out casting marks etc. Did you notice any gains from the porting you did???

415 GBP total with shipping to Ireland.

if you send him your old manifold - 25 GBP less than the amount above. That's on exchange basis.

It wasn't much practical for me that's why I went for the outright option. (without sending my own manifold back to Harvey)

The Harvey headers are overrated imo.

The above jobs by jamie and ken to aid flow can do the job just as effective.

The uppipe combo available are related to diamiter of uppipes internally to aid earlier boost response depending on turbo. But again imo is very overrated.

OK, that means most guys on Scoobynet who installed them and felt the difference are in wrong

I did Jaime i noticed a big difference, for some reason they dont seem to be getting blocked with spiders webs in the shed any more , maybe its the taper :icon_blahblah:...
Sorry Jaime, i havent used them yet so i cant say,.. just so you know mine are GT spec headers and not cast originals.

Jaime, just so you know mate.. i set out with big plans on what i was going to do porting wise, jesus i was gonna do inlet side, headers, heads them selves.. but the more i looked into it and actually got advise from people that know what there talking about, i soon found out that i was very limited on what i could actually do that wouldnt run a risk of actually hampering rather than helping things.
My reasoning was that my heads were lightly polished and i was looking to optimise everything else so everything was working as best it could, i found it very hard for people to share information with me and it was Paul Blamire that more or less slapped some sense into me, tbh the most that i could do is what i done.. which isnt anything much more than just amusing yourself and being able to say you prted your headers your self :icon_blahblah: I have no doubt that what i have done is better than it was originally, but how much benefit it will be... well i aint expecting much.
You will need a Die Grinder and Carbide cutter, and an air grinder is cheap, but they will burn out a non industrial compressor, i melted the solenoid in mine it was on an off so much, electric die grinders are the ones to have but they are 200 euro up. I got a lend of an air one.

Be carefull on the polishing of things.. the more you look into things you will find that some say that some areas shouldnt be polished as much as others as turbulence will help fuel air mixture, creat turbulance that can speed up exhasut speeds etc etc.... It really is a horses for courses situation, everyone has there views and opinions, very few will share what they do, and no guarantee what they do is the right thing.
You are probably looking at near 1k gbp to get heads up and cnc port and polished and flow bench tested... so as you can imagine you or me with a 40 euro die grinder aint going to do much

TBH Ken.. I know I'm never gonna make any great difference with the mild porting and polishing of the headers and I'm not expecting a huge gain... but if it helps than great. I'm gonna leave pretty much well alone from the inlet side as most people advice... and as you mentioned... and not to polish too mush as the turbulance can be beneficial to air/fuel.

From what I've read... mild porting and polishing on the headers can help speed up exhaust gases and hence spool... so worth a shot to even do as you did and remove the lip slightly. It's kinda just an excuse to play with the headers... and as you said... say you've ported em. I'm gonna remove all the shielding though and heat wrap them which will probably have more of an affect than anything else.

I've all the air tools I'll need for this along with a 150 litre industrial compressor so I should be covered. I've also got a dremmal, carbide bits and all the flap disc and polishers/buffers I should need!

Sure it'll be a while before I get near em as I need to get the engine back into the car first... and I can't do that till I get it back from bodyshop and get the front arches done and engine bay painted... so there'll be plenty more research done before I start porting anything. :icon_rolleyes:
