FRAWLS

Middle Lane Hogs
Drag race between BMW M5 Supersprint and TTRS on a runway. The BMW's passenger says "Dont worry I think we can take him....." and then the obvious happens! Their comments afterwards are funny. Can you imagine their embarrassment as they return to the pits especially considering that in an earlier run against Nissan's mighty GTR (see below) they handed it its ass on a plate.

310bhp per tonne versus 270...don't see why they bare surprised..also a shed load more torque.
Don't agree with this but should be standard V standard..you can get a TT E60 M5 which runs over 800hp would blow the doors of that TT

Yeh and you can get the MTM TT BI moto which will blow the doors, boot and wheels of any M5. That's not the point of these vids. Its just a funny vid as the guys are so cock sure of themselves and then to hear them choke in surprise is a laugh. The M5 has a 7 speed gearbox and is a 200 mph car right out of the box. If he had more space he would have caught the TT as its a 6 speed and not geared for anything like the M5's top speed.

Keith the sound you are hearing is probably actually the TTRS. It sounds like the old Audi UR Quattro Coupe. Still its an impressive result for a car which isn't that heavily modded. It has a bigger turbo, higher pressure injectors, induction kit, full exhaust system and remap. All carried out by APS in the UK. It's their demonstrator car.

You're right. I just thought maybe at the start with the M5's window down the sound might have been the TT as it has a very loud fully decatted 3.5 inch Milltek SS system. Its actually the TT Shop's TT not APS. APS have a Sportec upgrade whic is good for 400 bhp but TT Shop's is 430 according to the info I found here:

http://www.tt-forum.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=177797.

It can do 0-60 in 3.55 on standard road tyres in the summer sun, thats enough to smoke a lot of cars and is not far off the new 911 Turbo.

The M5 in the vid has a Supersprint system and does sound amazing but not as good as an R8V10 or Lambo V10. Have you heard the V10 in the LFA? Awesome doesn't do it justice!

Here's a vid of the car at the same V max event laying waste to an M3 CSL and later a supercharged R32. It hits a top speed of 181 so the M5 would have definitely passed it if he had another half mile or so.

Have only heard the LFA on tv....the M5 V10 comes no where close to the howl of the Lambo V10...I'm going to drive a Gallardo next month can not wait

All good, but more important for TT owners..................

Will it look good double-parked outside Brown Thomas on a Saturday afternoon as you nip in to buy that cardigan that matches your new hairdo???

Ah the olde stereotype. Haven't heard that one for a long long time and I'm 40 on Monday so I've heard them all. So you wouldn't like one so Nodge  Cant beat that 5 cylinder sound and as you saw it goes like sh1t off a shovel. That site is great by the way for all sort of really high quality cars drag racing each other in HD.

Just in case any newer members think you switched from Subaru for performance rather than a mid life crisis :icon_nana:

frawls, do you ever see yourself back in a subaru or whats your next car??

HI Duffman. I probably would still be driving a Scooby if they hadn't made the current one so ugly and impossible to tax. If the new STI saloon was sub 225 co2 ie 1,100 road tax p/y I would give it serious consideration as I like the look of it but there's too much better metal around for a lot lot less money. I think the best looking, sounding and performing car euro for euro at the moment is the new Focus RS so that would be high on my list or maybe a BMW 123d but I hate the sound diesel cars make although I heard a 123d with a Milltek exhaust and it actually sounded pretty good all things considered and it went like stink (250 bhp and 400+ NM torque with 400 euro generic remap.

Once Subaru started to move towards equal length manifolds and loose the flat four rumble that was the beginning of the end for me. Then when they increased engine size to 2.5 that was the end of the affordable love affair. Until they make an Impreza/Legacy with a new 2.0 turbo with direct injection and sub 190 co2 which looks and sounds great I will not be back unless of course I give in to my dream of owning a mint P1 but they are getting very old now and they would start to get expensive to maintain. The new phase 3 2.0 boxer is not enough of a advance over the phase 2 engine. Its only 10% more efficient whereas it would need to be 25 to 30% more efficient to compete with the likes of Audi's current 2.0 TFSI (350 nm torque and 42mpg) or Ford's Ecoboost engines (not as good but close).

Hope that answers your question

frawls, you would have enjoyed a thread i started awhile back in the members section as im sure you have contributed some useful info.

here's how i started it.

THE FUTURE FOR SUBARU FANS IN IRELAND

i ask myself, what will i be driving in ten years time and i cant see myself in a road going subaru for a few reasons.

i was never a fan of the legacy and after driving one or two it never gave me the trill of the turbo impreza, so the only car in the subaru range would have to be the impreza for me especially been a rally fan and enjoying the odd track day and some road going spirited driving on occasion. ive been driving impreza's 8 years now and have had a jdm wrx wagon, a uk turbo, a sti type r and now a uk wrx hawkeye and a jdm wrx for the track but as above i dont see myself buying another one, am i going to have to hold on to the hawkeye for a very long time and just modernise it as i go to keep the interest or let go and go for some of the new low emission european cars on the mmarket like the alfa mito or similar.
With the very plain interiors that come in the impreza which i find very boring towards most european preformance cars i.e. the 90's escorth cosy, lancia delta integrale and r5 turbo to name but a few, which came with a "boost" guage and oil presure guage as standard and still look great today and the cars of 2000 i.e. alfa 156 gta, ford focus rs and golf gti. there is now dought that the impreza is still a very fast car in todays market but other brands have caught up and passed them, subaru made its name on the the stages of the wrc in the early nighties and back then the turbo impreza was the king of the road and could eat supercars for breakfast on a back road but imo have not kept up with the times and need to look down a different route.
Imo i would love to see subaru going down the road like lotus, small engine+ light weight = fast car(which the wrc is looking for) with a low ratio gearbox with a paddle shift to get the best from it and 2 seat with rwd, now i know most here love the practiacality of four doors and a boot but in todays ireland, it costs you big and is only getting worse, i know ill get bored in a few years as i only got the hawkeye lately but when the time comes what will we all do? so i ask the question,

with the demise of the petrol impreza in ireland and subaru world rally team pulling out of the WRC, what does the future hold for irish fans of subaru road going rally cars i ask you??
