First scooby?!

Sunday Drivers
well lads,

i'm trying to get the funds together for my first scooby! Hopefully will have it for the summer. :icon_biggrin: more than likely goin for a b4 legacy after the quotes i got for wrx impreza was fairly high. just want to know what the b4's would be like on petrol?! :dontknow: I'll be using it as an everyday car. Also been reading different discussions on them and will i definitely have to get it remapped for irish fuel? how much will this cost? Just so i can include it in the budget cause i'd like to get it done as soon as i could if it is needed!

A remap is a must and you should allow yourself about €1000 for it! As for fuel consumption depending how heavy your foot is then anywere between 300 to 500kms.

I wouldn't agree that a remap is a must. Its more of a choice. There's plenty of lads here who don't have their cars mapped and are running them without problems.

My advise would be - if you plan to mod the car I.E Decat etc. you should budget for a remap.

If your buying the car to use as your daily driver and don't plan any serious mods, you could run it on E5 (99 ron(ish) fuel), don't trash it and you should be fine. You also have the option of adding booster which ups the RON.

If you want peace of mind go for the map but in my opinion if your not plannin major mods its not necessary. Mind you it does also reduce the VOD. Cue 'whats vod?'!

500kms is the most i've ever gotten from a tank but that was only because the second turbo was acting up and i couldnt go above 4000rpm... If you can limit yourself to driving it softly then you can get decent mileage but the problem is having the willpower to resist the temptation to put your foot down... 320-350kms if you are putting the boot down...

Agree a remap is not necessary unless you are planning mods... E5 and booster will be good enough and your ECU will adjust the timing then... I drove mine for a year and a half without any problems issues before i had it mapped for some mods... In saying that, there are a lot of cars or sale that have already been mapped so you could pick one of them up... Damo has a lovely one that is mapped for sale with a fair few mods...

Hey Twiggy.....well i've never driven a B4 Legacy before but i have sat next to a few
nutters here , driving them :icon_biggrin: :icon_biggrin:..................and yes they can go !!!
also with a very nice top end :icon_headbang: :icon_headbang:

As for fuel consumption ...............well i take it ,this is your first BIG Powered Car , so lets be honest
your foot will be firmly planted to the floor and you'll be grinning from ear to ear but your prob looking at
somewhere around 20 / 23 mpg maybe a little higher .

Should you map or shouldn't you ?????? I'd say YES !!! but that said as you can see there's lads here who never
did or never will and have NO issues what so ever ....................then again i could easily show other lads who
wished they had.

IMHO...................if you have €1000 plus to spare get it mapped, You will have piece of mind , you can remove the cats & add a few more
small bit's to the engine and easily get more BHP but more importantly reduce the VOD.....(valley of death) the time spent switching from the 1st turbo
to the 2nd.

If you decide not to map................... I would suggest you fit a KNOCK - Link , cost about €150 ,
Basically if your engine is suffering from pre-det , it will warn you to slow down before it's too late

Niall.

Thanks for the help lads! Just wondering will the vod be reduced by much if i get it remapped?! :ponder2:

that vally will swollow ya whole.
nah jus kiddin,
heard about that tho.
sounds like you hit a brick wall by the lads describing it.

Hey dude,

If you seriously want a B4 I'm trying to get rid of mine. Make me an offer
I get about 400kms to tank (mixed driving :icon_biggrin:)
All info in the link below

It's not that bad Tony...just don't shift into it, the car sounds like a dog growling when you do  Its barely noticeable on mine!

A map will reduce it to the point that it wont bother you at all if done right.
VOD is more/less noticable car by car also..

cheers lads. This is defo the place to be for info on scoobys. Delighted i joined! Can't wait to actually get one so i can actually really feel like a part of the group.

Sorry rob but i've to try shift my own car an do a bit of saving before i can go looking for one! :wall: looked at the link and it's a lovely car ya have tho!

I'm in a 02 Hyundai Coupe but really can't afford a b4 at the min! Have to save for a few months aswell whenever that goes. Different bills to be paid before i go shoppin for one! Sorry
