FORESTER DEBUTS AT MONDELLO

I went to bed at 9.45 on monday night.I was knackered. I had clocked up some milage on the track by the end of the day!!
When I felt the skyline needed a break I went out in the forester( 3 times ) totaling about 20 laps.
It was only shocking. the differance in everything. the grip around the corners especialy on the exit when getting on the power ,, the pure accelaration out of the bends and down the straights and the brakes and grip for decelaration was savage, I found myself slowing down to soon cause i couldn't bring myself to trust that they would work so good every time (but they did) untill the fluid started to boil and she got really spungey!! but that was after about 10 laps of flat out motoring on standard fluid!  I really wish i had put proper stuff in before the day,
I have a couple of good clips from the grand stand of her coming out of Dunlop(the sharp right hander at the start of the main straight) a bit sideways in 2nd gear, grabbing 3rd just as she's starting to straighten up then right up through 4th and then just into 5th as I go under the bridge pasted the grand stand then hard hard on the brakes matching the revs in each gear down to 2nd keeping 2nd around the right hand hair pin, and up to 3rd on the exit and around the left hander away from the camera and then accelerating over the horrizon!
I must of watched that 20 times. :D
I'll try get them up on youtube tomorrow and I'll post up a link when I have it done.I've got some of b4heaven's prelude bousing on the rev limiter that i'll post up aswell!
It was great to see some of you lads down there and thanks to b4heaven and co. for helping me get the cars home!!
Dan

Looks savage dan u must b well happy with it

Whats the craic lads!
It was myself alright in the 02 bug! Had a buzz alright, especially when it got wet, got the arse out a good bit
Last lap I went off on turn 3, some complete a**hole  in a sh*t punto  wouldn;t let me by on the straight and then pulled over on turn 3 and I went in too deep to get by coupled together with the punto pushing me to the outside and the rain also, made me have a major moment, ended up 10 foot from the wall and burried, thank f*ck  for AWD or I would have been properly shafted

I ruined my brakes out there though, 2 laps and I lost half the pedal, another 2 and it was nearly on the floor, came in after the first 6 laps and the things were on fire!! The smoke was billowing oput the whels, it was like some one lit 20 fags at the same time in each wheel! They were racing mintex pads M11/55 aswell, not road legal, supposed to be for racing only, I don;t know what racing Mintex are thinking off, must be go carts or something but definitly couldn;t handel the abuse I gave them.

Overall I had a good laugh, hope to see a few more Subarus down next time, I'll be there with Dubsti from the forum.

One word of advise though, drilled and groved discs, dot5.1 and some seriously heat resistant pads!

:subaru:

Alright cill

Shame we didn't get out at the same time! I did'nt get to dice with many awd's except for an evo rs that blow his motor as he ran from the forester   I was trying to time it to get out of the pits and join in with some similar cars but the marshals would'nt let me out until the straight was clear!
What brake fluid where you using? and how old was it?
Do you have the same big brembos that I do?
I bleeded mine after the first session and the fluid nearly burnt through the bottle, but they where alright after that!!
Dan

Dan get some Castrol SRF, best fluid for track use. Decent pads help alot too.

I have used Mintex 1144 and 1155 around Mondello and only the 1144 wilted a bit but the 1155 were ok. I needed new disks afterwards as the compound is very hard and abrasive on the disks. They would often smoke a bit afterwards but never actually caught fire. Maybe your brakes were sticking? I'm known for being very very late on the brakes so I would give them as much abuse as they can take. Ask Scruff's dry cleaners

The best pads for the Scooby are Pagid Pads by all accounts. They are expensive but most Scooby boards recommend them as the best. Brakes wise the WRC cars use STI by APS (in other words APS branded with an STI logo) so APS and Prodrive (Alcons) would be the best. I see Litchfield Imports have the Italian Tarox 12 pot brake conversion as an option on their Type 20 and Type 25 Impreza. They should come with eyeball springs as a no cost option :worship:
