Hi all,

I'm new to the site so go easy on me

My dad is looking to get a non turbo forester, around 00/01 year, his preference would be an automatic, are there any major problems with these? Anything we should look out for?

I looked at a 99 non turbo manual today, it had 126k miles on it with full main dealer history inc belt done, was mint inside outside was in average condition for a 10 year old car, garage was asking 6k euro for it but they dropped to 5k straight away.
Does this sound expensive, cash deal btw.

Thanks,
Neil.

at that age and mileage, you take a chance with any car/jeep you buy....
dont think they give much trouble IMO but i stand to be corrected....
would your dad not consider a turbo model ????
what sort of warranty will the garage provide???

Thanks for the reply...
He is not too interested in performance tbh, just something reliable and he likes the forester.
The garage said they would put a new 2 year NCT on the car and give 6 months warranty on it.

€5k is way too much for a 99 non turbo model. He would get a 00 STi Forester for that, see here http://www.cbg.ie/Car_Detail.aspx?ID=2565770 Tell him to buy one with service history and make sure belts were changed. Once it was serviced regularly the non turbo model rarely gives problems, it will be as thirsty as the turbo models though.

my mother has a non turbo 1999 auto, it has 140 K on it and she loves it; she got it new, it had a new the passenger baring a month ago, it has done everything from motor ways, pulling boats, light off roading through the fields pulling horse boxes, snowy mountains in france,, that froster has been every where. honestly never had any problems,, :subaru:
Also one of the nicest cars you'll drive, if you drive like a normal person,, not a crazy person.
when your looking, €4,500 is a good price for a good car,,

I agree with gary, I'd get a diesel 4x4 if not getting the turbo model, I know the look of a car means allot too, but if the turbo burns as much juice as the non-turbo, running cost will be fairly similar, if he's worried at all about running cost, best going for a diesel. If he's not try and advise him too go for the turbo model.

No it's not, my dad went to look at the one in Kettles lane and he said it was well rough, said he wouldn't pay 2k for it.
