Frayed throttle cable nearly killed me! Ever happen to anyone else?

I was on my way down to Kerry the day before Paddy's Day and my accelerator got stuck :icon_hang:

Long story short the car wouldn't stop accelerating on the busy N7 at 18.00. I was coming up on a white van at 120km first and then soon went up to 180km. After sh***ing myself and the cable eventually gave some slack, I managed to get the car to stop on the side of the road.

After checking it out it turns out the throttle cable has become frayed.....and this is all without warning!! Has anyone ever had this problem before? I will need to order a new throttle cable and get it fixed. But just wondering if this is extremely rare case????

I'm guessing its a one off, mate
I would consider it as any mechanical failure, rather than an ongoing issue.

-however it brings to mind the problems Toyotas have experienced not so long time ago lol

-its easy to stop the car though.. just turn the ignition off and pull over ? :dontknow:

I remember when i was a nipper my old man had a Renault 18turbo,
we set out for Dublin to do some shopping, in the car was my mam, sis, father and myself,
pulled up to a set of lights around cornelscourt area along side a soft top bmw with a poser in it,

my old man looked across at him to have a look at the car to which yer man started revving his engine :icon_biggrin: father look at me a gave a little grin as if to say well i know i shouldn't........... but fook it :new_2gunsfiring_v1: lights went green the aul lad floored it and left the bm for dead  he went to snatch 3rd gear when the throttle cable jammed wide open! he stuck it in 3rd and switched the ignition off as cool as ya like and pulled into the lay-by, got out and freed the cable, i could tell he was disgusted as he would have loved to be sitting at the lights for when the bm pulled up :wall:

Scary enough thing to happen but it possible wasn't my da's first time to have similar happen to him

Rush hour at 18.00 on the dual carriage way the day before paddies day. Rush hour traffic and panic that the car is not stopping, you don't think about that mate.

Sorry to hear about that mate. It'd a horrible feeling. Especially if its a family. Glad to hear you are all ok buddy
