Garda Seem to hate scoobys

Sunday Drivers
Hi everybody

I went on a lovely drive to Kerry on saturday in my scooby and had a run n with the local Garda!!! its seems if you drive on the inside lane of a climbing lane and pass out some idoits who are driving at 60kmh in a 100 kmh limit in the over taking lane you get done for undertaking!!! I wasnt even doing 80kmh on the inside,,,,seems a bit mad to me as i stayed on the inside the wholeway up the hill and a few cars flew passed me on the way up it!!

the Garda gave me the aul what sort of car is this? and what the hell do you think your doing!! and told me speeding was not the reason for stopping me but that i can not drive past cars while on the inside lane,,,,i wonder if you must slow down so if a car on the motorway is driving slower than you in the overtaking lane!! can you not drive by it??

its seems like i got pulled more for the car i was driving rather then the way i was driving!! 2 points now and a fine!! a horrible end to a lovely drive in a super car!!

very angry!!

anyone else have the same issue??

I don't mean to be smart, but I think most people know that if you undertake you run the risk of getting caught for it. Very frustrating though as the guys pottering along in the outside lane will never get caught for careless driving (which it is).

Yep. Same prob.Leaving Kinsale (magic ) roundabout coming out of Cork city heading east.Stayed in slowest lane and caned it leaving roundabout. Under cover cop in wine skoda coming over flyover heading east said i was doing twice the speed limit on the inside lane which i doubt an F1 car would manage as i was less than 1/4 mile from the roundabout by the time he pulled me. Sounds bad unless you know the road i know, but i was still in the filtering lane joining the main traffic so i could not have been undertaking. When i pointed this out he knew he had nothing but then inspected every inch of the car for 10 mins. His parting words were "slow down and let this be a warning to you" :cuckoo:What a LANGER! :angry1:

Something very tempting about that slip road, I think it's cos it's under the flyover :icon_twisted:

Do you get points for undertaking???
What a load of bull,
If it were me and If I knew I defo wasn't doing anything dangerous then I would complain to the guards and go to court,
See what a judge says when the guard tells him he pulled you for unertaking, underthe speed limit!
No way is the judge going to double your points either way!
Best of luck man!

if it was me behind that car moping up the hill in the overtaking lane , i'd have sat behind him and lanmped on the horn with full beams on .blind him and deafen him ....

its pricks like that who cause more accidents , but nothing is ever done to them ...
if i ever do attempt an undertaking manouvre on a motorway, ill pull up beside yer man ... hang with him for a few seconds and then ever so slightly pull away ..
the key is slowly though .. cos then i can say "yer man slowed a few mph , and what was i supposed to do ,slow down with him ???"

I thought you were allowed to undertake if the cars in the fast/overtaking lane are travelling below the speed limit by some margin :dontknow:

I'd take me chances in court, if some fool was doin 20kph in the overtaking lane and you were in the slow lane even if its 100kph limit on the road, does that mean that you couldn't go passed whoever is in the overtaking lane :ponder2:

Hi Lads

I think were all of the same opinion lads!! which im glad to hear the garda told me 3 times he wasnt stopping me for speeding but for undertaking its a load of sh*t!! he didnt even know what the fine was!! he thinks its 80 euros!!! lol what a joke,,,,im mean these people who snail in the overtaking lane should be slapped with the fine this climbing lane is about a mile and a half long,,,and sure you are allowed by law to drive in both lanes!!!

I think he was jealous of the sound of a scooby with a blitz exhaust!!

I really don't mean this to sound smart or anything but that's why the outside lane is called the overtaking lane - if it was legal to pass somebody on the inside lane they would refer to both lanes as "overtaking lanes", as opposed to calling one the slow lane. Again, I don't mean to sound like a d1ck - the only reason I say this is because I got caught myself doing this leaving Dublin on the M7. I undertook some gobshite with a trailer doing 40Kph on the feckin' motorway after staying behind him in the fast lane for what felt like years...the second I did this *WHOOP WHOOP* ...the fuzz had me! I got away without any points/fine but got a serious tickin off and was told in future to stay behind the vehicle until they pull over and allow you through...what a balls!

Always thought the same myself, you are entitled to do the speed limit in either lane so I don't see why you wouldnt be allowed. Sure if it was illegal, then surely the logic applies that if you are stuck in 2 lanes of traffic barely moving, then you cant move forward until the 'overtaking lane' moves?? :ponder2:

you cant move forward until the 'overtaking lane' moves??

Going to work would turn into some sort of game "car chess"

You can pass on the inside in @slow moving traffic when the traffic in the right hand lane is moving slower than you.

I cant see how you can be done for this as if you are traveling at the speed limit you are not breaking any law.
The rules of the road state that once you have overtaken you should move back to the driving lane so it was gobshite should have got done

quote from rules of the road site:

You may overtake on the left when

You want to go straight ahead when the driver in front of you has moved out and signalled that they intend to turn right.
You have signalled that you intend to turn left.
Traffic in both lanes is moving slowly and traffic in the left-hand lane is moving more quickly than the traffic in the right-hand lane.

You must not overtake when:

You are at or near a pelican crossing, zebra crossing or at pedestrian signals.
A traffic sign or road marking prohibits it.
You are approaching a junction.
You are on the approach to a corner, bend, dip in the road, hump-back bridge, brow of a hill or on a narrow road.
You are in the left-hand lane of a dual carriageway or motorway when traffic is moving at normal speed.

Its stupid that you can get done for something perfectly legal when its the guard who doesnt know the law

I belive im right...im thinking of getting a solictor involved as my mate was behind and seen what i did which he couldnt belive i got pulled for as he done the same...and i have the witness and te cop was on his own so its 2 against 1,,,i have a good case i think..

cheers for the advice and opinions lads,,,
