Garda speed traps

Does anyone know what kind of detector I could get to warn me of Garda speed van ahead? Do they use radar type technology still?

I got caught by one this week coming through Palmerstown on N4 at about 11pm. :angry1:

I know I was done because I saw flash and ironic thing is I had my brother in car with me who is a GARDA and he went over to van afterwards and asked about it. The young fellow inside told him I was doing 90kph and N4 is 60kph - he said he was staying there for an hour and got over 60 already at the time he spoke - brother said 10 in time he was talking to him.

Anyway what's the best most economical detector that works here?

So they are illegal then...

Can't believe that almighty chancer Padraig Flynn brought it in!!!!

Anyway here's an interesting video from US cop showing it (not always) working with his squadcar speed detector...

and that seems to confirm what my brother said - they won't work because they use pulse LASER here so it's off then pulses on for fraction of second and has your speed - the fact your detector detected the laser is pointless at that point... and you won't see the LASER until it has bounced off you and got your speed...

ps. i'm not trying to drive outragously fast or break the law here - i'm just pissed when people are done for driving at normal speeds on roads with ridiculously low speed limits like the N4... :angry1: so annoying when there are narrow dirt roads with grass growing down the middle of them down the country with HIGHER speed limits!
