Gatso'd :(

Hey lads, have a few questions to those in the know.

Got flashed by a Gatso van in Dublin last Saturday week, one of those unmarked buggers, just got off the ferry bleary eyed at about 2am

First question do they get you going both ways? Seems a little dangerous being flashed in the face head on like I was at night, a car I think passed the other way about the same time could it have been for him (though I was doing 60 in the 50)

And from Experiance, how long should notices take to turn up? This was 11 days ago

Thanks :)

Can get you both ways from the back of the van..i.e your front and other cars rear..usually takes about two weeks in the post :police:

I got done in august there, took a pic of the rear number plate. Drove by the fooking thing distracted by the woman giving out :angry1:

A real accident black spot though, there hasn't been even 1 remotely bad accident, never mind death, on the road since it was opened 10 years ago :icon_rolleyes:

Takes about 2 weeks to come out, then you have 28 days to pay, including the day the notice was issued, although I don't know how you are supposed to pay it then. Stung me and apparently a hell of a lot of people for an extra e40, who tried to pay on the 28th day after the notice date.

And what is the deal with the points? Do you get the lisence stamped or what happens

Is there anything to stop me "loosing" this one now and getting a new one, and only one gets pointed? Not that that's legal or I'd do it

And also, how do they effect premiums in the real world?

Old school unmarked gatso vans are gardai funded and only catch you one way unlike de new sub contracted gatso vans which are ALL marked these can get you both ways and do NOT flash at all so if it was an UNmarked one and it flashed in ur face it got someone on the other side of the road going away from the van not you goin towards it

Don't pay it at all, let it go to court, don't turn up you'll get a bigger fine but you won't actually get the points on your licence!

The new marked gatso vans do flash but only at night. Up until a month ago, I lived about 500m from where they parked and I used to see it flash constantly.

The unmarked garda vans always used to catch you face on as there are more than a few people who tried to fob the points off on their women, only to be sent a photo of them driving :icon_lol:

i taught the rule was the owner of the car had to prive who was driving it or they get the points on matter what

I really hoped right about this as I was flashed in the face last week and I know I was doing less than 50k as I was stuck behind a granny in a focus
