Gearbox (rebuild or secondhand)

My gearbox has begun whinning and it seems a bit sticky in 3 but she is ok otherwise and not foooked by any strecth of the imagination.
I'm in a bit of confusin on what to do. I have 2 choices get a rebuild (which I'm told is EXPENSIVE) or go get a second hand box which I know nothing about and could be fooked itself.
I am personally leaning towards a rebuild but don't really know anyone reliable in that part of the industry and I don't want some dodgy gearbox "SPECIALIST" chargin me for a full rebuild and having to only change a single gear and a set of bearings or something as i'm sure gearboxs are a minefield for this type of thing.
If any one has any advice or any good experiences with this same issue I'd really appreciate any help.
Or if anyone has a gearbox thats in good condition lying around giss a shout.
My car is a v3 jap sti.

A couple of lads have had gearbox rebuilds from Ali Burrows & I believe he is very cheap & excellent quality.

But give a ring around the different traders on here to get an idea for price anyway.
