Getting charged 80 Euro to change break disks and pads !!

ckay

Petrolheads
Lads,
I asked my mechanic for price to change front disks and pads ( i have in a box ) on my leggy and he's asking 80 euro to do it!!! a bit steep I thought .
Don't trust myself to do it as I'm not at all mechanical minded , is he having me on ?

As above,

most places charge €40 to €50 per hour (Main dealer would be more), as your not just paying for their time, your also paying for their experience and the tools they have.

It is a bit steep

But thats the price of it man..... Nothing we can do unless you get a mate with a bit of mechanical experience to show you how to do it so you have the confidence to do it yourself

ye easy enough job to do it yourself, once someone that knows there stuff shows you how its done. im sure some on here near you could give you a hand. where abouts you living?

As long as I didnt run into badly seized bolts I'd have front discs and pads done in under 30mins. I'd only charge 30.

Sounds about right :icon_cry:

But im sure some one here with the knowledge and tools can give you a hand or do it for you at a better price

That's fair enough so .
Living in Mallow working in Cork City , thanks for clearing that up lads just thought it was a bit steep.

you would be doing well to find mechanic that would only charge for half an hour! there will always be "seized bolts" and "problems getting it off"!

where ever you get it done, watch them do and try it yourself next time - there's really not much to it. Grab a Haynes manual too.

80 is quite normal.

How much is an electrician or plumber an
Hour????
Everybody expects mechanics to work
For nothing, hence the sh1t pay we get!!

30euro above.......your mad!!

Graham
I used to charge 40 quid for this kind of thing myself
but it was additional income not my livelyhood

same as some of the fellas above

Get a sparks a brickie a plumber or any other tradesman
To do a nixer and very few of them will do anything for less
Then €100 no matter how small the job

Have a look at youtube thats where i learned to change my discs and pads,
i like messing around with bits and pieces and dont mind the odd fcuk up but if you dont like getting your hands dirty i'd say the €80 is reasonable for the pro to do the job right and guarantee it.
Just my 2cents worth hope its of benefit
