Getting few things straight

So, I have seen somewhere on youtube one of those UK based shows where they buy a car, do little fixing here and there and then sell it with tiny bit profit. Fair enough.

In one episode, they got Impreza. They said tho, that by changing Exhaust to bigger, ECU however tries to compensate for something, and lowers therefore performance. Unless its remapped. So my question is, if I wanna different exhaust, purely for aesthetics and sound, will that anyhow affect my performance?

If thats just some exhausts, which ones does it and which ones doesnt? Will change of only muffler do the job as well? I am noob in this and I could not find anywhere any reliable information yet, so thanks for answers.
 
If your only changing backbox then no real need for a map, it will make it louder but not really any faster, if your taking out any of the cats further up the exhaust you will need a map.
 
had a different back box on my sport and never made a bit of differnce . seen as your leaving everything else alone except the muffler your car would be fine
