Octane Boostaholics
So looking to get a new car (Diesel)
Max 4 Grand, UK Reg, scotland preferably, my base is AB106tp,

But i've been looking
Which is best option,

VW Passat 1.9 Tdi 130 2003
VW Golf Gt Tdi 130 2001-2003
Skoda Fabia Vrs 1.9Tdi 130 02-05
Toyota corolla 2.0 D4-D
Mondeo/Vectra 02-05

I have no real experience with any of these, but my preference would be the passat.

04/05 Honda Accord 2.2 ICDTI diesel.. Bulletproof reliability.. Hoping to get 1 myself in the next while

vrs is a terribly under rated car imo , but passat or golf are generally bullet proof , gt tdi would be my choice though

Stay away from vectra and corolla. Surprisingly, that toyota engine is crap, have seen numerous head gasket failures.

geez robbie....
cant agree there man,i've put an engine in one and also know of a mates mate who has had loads of turbo problems with this model.i would have agreed with you until my uncles one blew an engine and then had further turbo problems...really frightened me off them but i may have just been unlucky..i was buying a civic diesel last week but decided to get a gt tdi golf instead.just my opinion though!!
:icon_redface:

honda's petrol engines are great, but i also heard alot of bad things about the diesels engines.

got with one of the VW

The 2.2 diesel accord is an awfull yoke for problems in and around the 04-05 years, you need to get up the years in this car to get honda reliability.
Id be in the VRS fanclub here.

I had a 05 civic petrol and the gearbox went!! Accords have similar problems and the mechanic i use has one and the timing belt snapped out of nowhere and cost 1500 to repair...so u can be unlucky..my mate has a 06 passat tdi with low miles and the turbo is going and also another mate has just bought an 03 a4 1.9tdi and needs new dual mass flywheel...800..new ecu because wen the windscreen as replaced they never replaced the water drain away section at the window and water has got in and destroyed ecu and this is common seemingly..dat is another 700 and can only b done by audi! So im in the skoda club aswell! a nice octavia vrs tdi..in blue!!

Yep stay clear of the Accord.
I had an 04 Passat highline before and have to say i really liked it

Fabia VRS all the way.............that may be a liitle biast as my daily driver is a VRS Octavia !! :653:

VW Passat 1.9 Tdi 130 2003 very over rated car give trouble with front control arms, flywheels ,turbos, injectors, boost control solenoids
VW Golf Gt Tdi 130 2001-2003 not a bad car gearbox can give trouble also flywheels and injectors
Skoda Fabia Vrs 1.9Tdi 130 02-05 same as golf but seems to not give the same trouble
Toyota corolla 2.0 D4-D give flywheel trouble and head gasket other than that not too bad
Vectra 02-05 pile of poo
mondeo 00-07 good car but gives injector trouble and flywheel trouble other that fairly bullet proof
focus 1.8 diesel 98-05 very good car but can give injector trouble
octavia vrs very good car as above under rated way better than passat

in my opinion the focus or the vrs fabia or vrs octavia the rest i would leave just my opinion from seeing them through the garage

I had the Golf and the Passat as company cars and I don't know why anyone would spend the extra on the passat..nicer cabin but it handles like a boat. Personally I would be buying a Skoda, same components but they are better made and cheaper...the Skoda factory pride themselves on less QA faults and warranty claims than VW

Going to see a GT TDI 150 in Edinburgh at weekend, Nice looking car with Full Receipts.

Pray its good
