Getting trough the recession

Petrolheads
looks like the company i work for are looking to cut our wages back to help secure everyones job. has anyone got any ideas or suggestions to help ppl get trough the hard times ahead. personally ive been nixerin like theres no tomorrow paintin and decoratin and a bit of alarm and electrical and even at that im just able to keep the car in petrol. like many other members ive a baby in the house and its a bit worrying that we havent even hit rock bottom yet. it seems to me that even though there is a recession and we all have less money the price of stuff is still the same and shows no sign of comming down. all that has come down is house and car prices and even though im still renovating my own house the price of materials is as exspensive as ever..........any thoughts :ponder2:

Dont know man think your just gonna have to do what your doing and get the head down, like you we have a baby on the way hope it works out for you

think yer right , have to say though havin the baby in the house doesnt cost a lot at the moment as both our relations contribute in that area. in a few weeks tough ill be handin over a serious ammount of money for a child minder as herself is back to work after maternity leave. ive a bit of work lined up but can see that dryin up quick as more and more ppl are feeling the pinch.

everybody is in the same boat mate!!!!
just gotta get on with it!!!!
missus has had to take a 400 euro a month pay cut but life goes on!!!!
:angry1: :angry1:

My missus lost her job 2 weeks before christmas nothing to do with the recession just her boss is a wan*er and when he found out we were having a baby he let her go :angry1:
But the good news...... her boss and me get our dublin tickets off the same bloke and he always gets us tickets beside each other so ill have some fun there

Imo, I think the first thing you want to do is stop looking at the news, that just depress you and puts more fear into people, i try to not think of it as a recession, but as just going back to the way things were before the boom.. thats the reason it was called a boom, cause it comes and has to go.
I have 2 kids, and a new house that i moved into in may 08, one girl 4 and a little boy who was born in august who unfortunetly was born with downesyndrom but fortunetly stayed with us and didnt leave us at birth, i spent over 3wks in hospitals, 2 of which were in Crumlin with him, and beleive me, if you want to feel lucky and realise that your worries are petty, take a walk in through that hospital and have a look at the people you meet, i never walked down it but i met someone worse off than the last person i'd met.
If you can ignore the scare mongering and keep your head down, and stick to doing the best you can do, like 99% of us you will be fine, but if you like the stupid 1% that dont know when a good time is over and how to just get along, then you will just end up in trouble.
Another good survival trait is to be willing to do anything if needs be, whether its painting to packing shelves to cleaning windows, money is money.. i sometimes think the people that spent 5 yrs in college are worst affected, the only know one are, compared to guy that went to work after school, take me for example, my list includes, 1 worked in garage.. 2.worked as trainee manager with supervalue..3.tyre fitter...4.barman...5 tractor driver..6 .dump truck digger driver on roads..7.hedgecutter driver...8. and my last job for past 6yrs aluminium factory worker.. i am willing to do anything and try anything new.. and i will survive this so called recession and any recession as best i can, and i will not listen to the horror stories and let it get me or my family down. Try pick out a few good points, my major pick me up is the fact my mortage has dropped by so much, and if worst come to worse the banks have no point in taking your house, who will buy it??? Realize wat you have buddy and dont worry about what you could loose

 excatly once you have your health everything else will come together were all in the same boat

good stuff ken, there are ppl a lot worse off then myself and like yourself ive had lots of differant jobs and can just about turn my hand to anything. untill recently i had been ignoring the news and ppl goin on about the recession and to be honest i dont have much of a clue when they start talkin about economic stuff. what i do know is ive had to put a lot of stuff on hold like finishin the attic and the back garden but i appreciate that these woes are insignificant compared to other ppls situations. i didnt want to come across as a moan and my intention for starting the thread was to see if ppl had some suggestions and advice that might benifit us all. one thing i am doin is trying to help other ppl in my extended family and my friends by doing stuff for them or helping them or by promoting their buisness.

Well said KenC, no matter how bads things are just remember there's always someone worse off. I don't listen to the news or read papers either fr the last few months. I know the recession is here and I'm sick of listening to it. I'm down to a few days a week too and being self employed means I cannot claim the rock and roll either.
My thinking is that my father raised 4 of us through the 80's when there wasn't a hours work in the country so I'm sure I'll make it through this.
Stay positive
Cheers
John
