GT-B Project

Just to say hello to you all here at the forum.

I have just started a project car, 1997 GT-B Estate/Auto (Bilstein) JAP import/White/60,000 miles.

Bought it with a blown crank, very clean body and interior, original bodykit. The car is being sent to a specialist in Bristol for a complete engine upgrade for a capability of 400BHP plus

Mahle Forged Pistons/Rings and Cometic 1.3mm Head Gaskets
STI9 Nitrided Crank inc ACL Bearings
ARP Headstuds
Manley Steel Conrods
Modified Oil Pump 11mm gears (Genuine Subaru)
Oil Modine (Geniune Subaru)
Sump Kit
Cambelt Kit
Engine Build Gaskets
Spec-C Engine Block (Closed Deck)
Oil Filter
Water Pump

From this point I will decide on additional power goodies.

I intend to carry out suspension and brake upgrades following engine works, and then tidy of body, only light works needed.

I will update on here for those interested in this project

Cheers

Re: GT-B Project

Welcome along lad,

sounds like your going all out.
Bet she'll be sweet when your done, get some pics up

Re: GT-B Project

Thanks to all well wishers, project starts this week, engine out a a full report including suspension, brakes etc.

I have to pre-order the closed deck and that only arrives week after next, I expect the project to be completed in Jan 2010. The power goodies will be developed a few months following successful running in of the new engine. No hurry with this end of the business.

I am from Enfield, Co Meath.

Cheers

Welcome along :subaru:

Nice project  ... You might want to consider the gearbox at that power, it won't last long at 400

Re: GT-B Project

Thanks for that but I have already considered the gearbox, and if I am getting up to 400 then I will sort the Auto-Box to handle it.

That will be a little time away, the engine build allows me the flexibility to go up in power if I need to, its a bit of a suck and see.

I will get the car running reliably and back to Ireland with it and see where I go from there, I may just decide to stick with it at 300 or a little more.

There is an up-rated valve kit available for those auto-boxes, to handle bigger power, I have choices with the box

Regards

Re: GT-B Project

I am tempted to stay with the Twin Turbo's but until I get right into the engineering its up in the air...lots of options and choices with this project car.

Re: GT-B Project

I do read the posts on my thread and I appreciate the warm welcome to the forum and indeed the interest in my project.

I am doing some research on the auto-box rating.. would anybody on this forum know what the standard "stock" automatic gearbox is safely rated for ?

I want to avoid getting to deep into a money pit with the car, sensible, practical, and reliable engineering is my motto. I want to balance the engine rebuild with perhaps moderate increase in power delivery "early 300BHP" without bursting the gearbox.

I can get the gearbox upgraded to handle higher BHP (400) but this will need very deep digging into my budget, which I am not particularly keen on.

I will be dealing with suspensions and brakes later on in the project

Cheers
