Sunday Drivers
heard earlier that my head gasket is gone just trying to get prices roughly how much it is too get this work done i.e is it worth it or should i just strip it and sell it for parts

Hi mick241000 ,

No get her fixed !!!

Or at the very least get it looked at first.

Now is your gaskett going or did it blow ????...............ie. car came to a stop with white smoke , belowing out of the engine ???
or is she at the overheating stage .

I ask because if it's only going , it's an easy job , open engine , replace gaskett, change oil etc..... and away you go.

if it's blown it's messy work , engine would need to be flushed etc.... could be other issues .

Niall.

no she is driving but not far as in overheating like a ba*tard the thermostat was fucked so thats what done the damage so i have been told

Well im not an expert but if she's still driving it means the gasket might be fucked
but hasn't actually blown , which is good.

Look down through the list of traders here and start ringing around for a few quotes

DO NOT DRIVE HER UNTIL IT'S FIXED

Niall.

no no she is parked up outside here at the moe i am waiting on a price off my mechanic then ill start comparing prices just a ba*tard they have 2 heads too ya know that way may as well do both like

Get onto one of the traders on here and theyl quote you and/or diagnose correctly

Dave or Ciaran will sort ye!!

Well because of where the heads are in scoobys the engine has to come out and you should alwasy replace both head gaskets together.

But as above get on to the traders and they will quote you to fix her

Definitely get prices from all the traders before starting.

As Phil says it is an engine out job to replace but its not a huge job to do that either, luckily subaru allowed for such surgery when designing engine bay.

well in fairness they didn't as its a serious enough job..

Thanx

What I mean is that its not gonna cost 2 or 3 thousand to pull the engine out.
My best estimate would be somewhere in the region of €600-€700 for removing & refitting engine + any costs for buying gaskets etc :dontknow:

As the lads have said get a price from the traders, Id give Ciaran ASD and Ali Burrows a call to discuss. They wont stitch you up and are excellent at what they do.
