HELP. Anybody know this Subaru?

This is what I got when €4000 was offered. Originally if all checked out fine first day I was paying €4800. (Asking price is €5500)
I don't know where this price is coming from as if I remember correct the previous owner STi Shane
had it advertised on dd for €5000 :snooty:

Its my car lads. i dont know where some of you are getting your info, this is the first time since i had the car that i put it up for sale, and STI shane sold the car for 5600 to me which he can verify if anybody cares to ask him, and since then the car has been fully polybushed, new ACT clutch, new tyres, & put the car through NCT, so thats where my price is coming from so if you dont have valid or true information on the car please stop leading the OP astray.

As for the issue with the car, im not trying to rob anybody here, im being as honest as i can with Richard, im just going by what my tuner is telling me, i thought this whine/whirring was coming from the turbo but my tuner took the turbo off, and said its perfect, no shaft play, nothing. so at the moment i dont know what the noise is, could be a boost leak, could be a leak in the upipe, could be a leak in the y pipe, car is still in the tuners so will update when i know more, if anybody else has anything else to say about the car please make sure its accurate.

Thanks

 fair play jack . to be fair lads were just telling him to be carefull and he came on looking for advice if you came on looking for advive the very same thing would have being said
its not a 10 min job to take the turbo off so did the tuner not have an idea where the noise was coming from before he striped it :dontknow:.

I understand that but telling an outright lie like i tried to sell the car as soon as i got it is hardly fair, or saying what i paid for it when they have no idea, its not relevant to the OP's post. and makes me look bad. The noise is coming from the turbo area, on initial inspection he said it sounded like the bearings so hed take it off and check for shaft play, but after taking it off he said the turbo was perfect, im going in to talk to him soon so hopefully should have more information. Thanks for your input mate :)

 fair point . hope you get it sorted richard i think is still intrested in the car so hope it works out for both of ye

Whining could be power steering pump possibly have you checked that ?

There was an issue with the rear diff as well when Shane had it , that sorted?

Tuner should know difference between a turbo bearing noise and exhaust leak.

Also this would have saved you money instead of wasting time. Also with downpipe off can check for turbo shaft play. No need for whole turbo.

OP was also told it was because it did not have coolant changed after turbo was changed? Assume info from tuner. Strange statement.

And even after was removed and on bench was still sent to turbo guys even though nothing was wrong with it.

You can forgive op and the guys replying in what they have said.

And why was clutch replaced? Was the other one slipping??

Before the turbo was looked at I was told coolant should be flushed and oil changed about 500 to 1000 miles after turbo is out on as contaminated oil can be bad for the turbo, the original plan was to send the turbo but when it was found it was in good condition it was not. As I said I'm no expert just going by what I'm told, and the previous clutch was slipping in high revs yes.

I believe you told OP that turbo was sent out. Now it wasnt.

And when engine was fitted. A 70% clutch that was in WR1 was also fitted.

So in the space of 12 months for a 70% good genuine subaru clutch to be slipping in space of a year and area 15k km is very strange indeed. Heavy usage?

No I told the op that I would be exchanging the turbo BEFORE it was checked as the tuner seemed sure it was the bearings gone in it, I can't comment on the usage before me but it slipping almost immediately after I got it, could you on me your number please so I can have a quick chat about it thanks

Sorry Jack but back in November you'd said on DTD that you were planning on selling up not long after purchasing. Nothing wrong with moving a car along soon but people do ask questions why.

http://www.dtdirl.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1512461

Nobody is saying you're trying to rob anyone but someone did mess about with the car and there was/is issues with it.

Oh yes, thats true, sorry about that, i had planned on selling it after it was tested.
Seems that way alright but im doing everything i can to get it running right.
It seems the turbo is fine & its getting compression tested monday then it will be for sale at a reduced price, or will be broken for parts.
Anyway thanks for all the input lads. :yellowthumb:

Cheers.

Alright Lads!

Thanks for all the advice! Jack has been keeping me updated daily on the progress with the car. Although was told it might be sold as is (with this mysterious whine)

I am interested in the car, if all these problems are sorted and the money is right, as id be willing to put a few quid into getting it back to standard.

Dave from STi tuning was a gent to deal with over the phone, amazing how he has time for someone he doesnt even know and would steer you in the right direction.

I am still a bit concerned about the car and its condition. This would be my first Subaru and really do not want to be disappointed.

All we can do is hope the 'whine' problem is solved and that the compression test comes back good.

A good map would then be on the cards :p

Again cheers for all the help,

Richard

Hi Richard if your thinking of doing above why not buy a no drama "standard" Wrx or sti and get in maped for 350euro in the first place why put yourself through all that? Loads of nice looking wrxs out there as stock they are quick enough and remap should see 260 to 270 on a euro Wrx ?...

@ richard, you seem to have your heart set on this car and in fairness its looks the business, i'd seen it advertised awhile back and nearly went to view it but decided i wanted a blob eye sti instead so can understand your 'horn' for it , but take a minute and think about it, you can't beat peace of mind when buying a car and your never going to have this with this one, there's loads of great reasonable sti's for sale atm with no issue's so shop around but it's your money, enjoy d shopping : :stismiley
