Can anyone at all help me on this one, bout 3 years ago the missis bought a car from a well known car dealership, it's only now that she sold it on the insurance company for the new owner has said its a write off , after much digging I found out it was a write off before I bought it !! Am I just going to have to cut my losses or is. There anything I can do ?? And by the way the Garda and department of transport said its not down as a write off but from doing a cartell check on it , it's saying that it is. Any help on this would be great fully apriciated.

A write off can simply be from a enconomical financial write off.

People always think it means 5 cars welded together.

Any evidence on car of previous repair?

What losses would you have.

As Dave said could only have been beyond econimical repair?

If department of transport and garda have no interest in it shouldn't be a problem

what type of write off? category wise?

thinking about it if the Gards nor the other lads have it on their system them it must have been a Cat D, cat Ds dont have to be reported or recorded

if its a cat d its allowed on the road as long as its deemed safe, ie NCT it just affects market value -20 or 30% market value of a clean car

what "losses" are you referring to?

giving money back or something?

screw that, if its not a cat A or B then your allowed to sell it on, and its upto the BUYER to determine if its a write off and use there discretion not to buy or what ever

they have no come back, stick to your guns, you broke no rules or laws

its their problem

this all depends on the write off category though

you bought the car in good faith , and also sold it in the belief that it was a good car , you have nothing to worry about , its up to the new owner to find out weather or not the car has a questionable past , their problem now

Think that cartell was set up by the insurance cos :icon_hang:

Hope you didn't take car back or give refund. Buyer beware and all that

What category?

If it was a private buyer, tough, they should have done a history report before they bought it. Their insurance company can simply ask them to get an engineers report to say it's road worthy and they'll insure it. Simple.

Thanks lads for the info, it was a class c write off not a thing wrong with it by the way and managed to get cartel to take it off marked down as a write off witch they have done, got it all sorted for the new owner ( only because she sold it to a family member) found out in the end it was classed as a write off because it had minor body damage which had been all sorted before the misses bought it

you don't have to worry,
they have no grounds, its just the moral aspect,
but obviously u didn't know anything about it
