hi everyone i just brought a 95 wrx last week and the bottom end went yesterday i have taken the engine out now is it cheaper to rebuild or cheaper to get a new engine? all i know is i cant wait to get her going again

Stanley

Bad luck with the engine man!!!! But its just one of them things
Welcome to the forum & club.....
What do ya want out of the engine? I am thinkin of rebuilding my own engine at the moment
but its a tossup between that and a EJ257 conversion.....
doing the research to help me decide what i want to do!!!

at the moment i just want it to work. for 1 week i had a smile every time i went out in it. im not a member yet as i have no printer and when i click to do it on line it wont let me
tho i do plan on becoming a member. i had a job gettin the engine out and if it wasnt for reading comments on here i would still be at it.
should i get my turbo rebuilt?

is thier any good subaru events comming i shouldnt miss? i havent had a nice car for a while so i need to catch up on the shows and events

thanks i will do. do u know rufly what it will cost im going to go ringing around tomorrow. is it commen for the bearings to go or do u think my turbo may of caused it cause it runs at .7 most the time but every now and then it was going to 1.3 with a massive burst of power. should i get the turbo rebuilt to and will it stop it?
so many questions its hard being a new boy

you have a few problems there alright

the big boost wouldnt have helped your bottom end going so theres a problem there alright but rebuilding your turbo wouldnt fix that

it is a commen problem on the older classic shape impreza for the big end bearings to go but you have a few options

cheap second hand engine 500 euro unfitted
new subaru short block 2000 euro un fitted
rebuild from a tuner anything from 2500 to 3500 and beyond

depends how much you want to spend

Hi Stanley - Commiserations on the tragedy man - Its not always like that so get her fixed and you'll be sorted!

On a personal note I cant stand the way people sell subaru's advertised as a 'GREAT CAR', never let me down etc - And than some guy that might not know any better e.g. Stanley above comes along - Hears a big story about the car and is sold straight away. Only to be let down a week later. I dont know how people can put a face on them to sell a car and knows the engine is on the way out or is not set up correctly.
But whats more annoying is that the people buying them doesnt know any better!
Stanley man, you should have come on here before you bought - but hind sight is not intelligence I suppose

to be fair paddy big ends can go without any warning

your prob right Kerr alright but it doesnt just stop at big ends - can be gear boxes whinning etc and it kind of helps if the seller mentions that it normally boosts 0.7 bar but sometimes jumps up to 1.3 bar like above - That kind of issue can lead to only one result.
