High MPG diesel car

I'm gonna champion the Civic again (it can keep with an STi over the Wicklow Gap after all) ha ha

2.2 diesel - returns on average 50mpg the whole time but on extended runs will give better. Goes/stops/handles very well & unbelievably torquey compared to the lastest (very low) emission diesel

I've had ours 4 years & put 130k km's on it without it missing a beat - General servicing is all its cost to date.

It's in the 2nd tax band so €280 a year tax - I know the same engine in Accord drops above the cut-off point so costs 400+ on tax but Civic deffo only €280

280 not bad at all Brian

Do honda make that engine themselves?

are they badged cdti think Opel have same badging hardly a Opel engine is it?

It's their own engine Ciaran - Honda originally used the GM 1.7 diesel engine in their older model but the 2.2 was fully their own. Think they perfected it over the years too - my version doesn't have the DPF (I'm 99% sure on that) whereas the same engine fitted in earlier Accords did have DPF & was known to cause some grief.

Ah that's right the old Gm/Isuzu 1.7 knew there was history there [emoji106]

Cheers gents, great food for thought there, Jan will be when we buy alright, should be plenty of options with trade ins from the number of 161 purchases talked about. Great info here as ever [emoji106]

No contest there are only two cars to go for either a focus ( but not a 1.6 unless 2011 up) or golf personally I'd go focus 2.0 tdci but I'm biased as I work for ford

Friend of mine just picked up an 06 Accord 2.2 cdti for small money. Massive boot. Full cream leather. Cruise control. Dual zone A/C. Etc. Lots of creature comforts and very nice place to be. They're a lot of car for the money and the engines are lovely and quiet aswell. Common faults were manifold cracking and injectors but these were covered by honda under warranty. My friends has a FSH and it's in his book that they were done. Forgot to ask him what MPG it did coming home from Cork but the needle still hadn't reached 3/4 of the tank by the time we got home.

My mate has a 09 type civic type s 2.2 diesel must say very nice car an always impressed by the torque in the car... If I was to convert to the dark side I think I'd be very tempted by one ????

I have an O9 Seat Leon 2.0 TDI, it's the 140 brake sport version. it does on average 45 mpg over 37K miles. That's all sorts from small 12 mile runs to the long distance journeys. On your daily commute driving her relatively easy (120kmph) she should do around the 50 mpg. She has cost me nothing in the three and a bit years I've owned her, just the usual servicing and new wellies. Get a good one that has been treated well and continue to treat her well and they will last.

Clean looking machine, I would imagine you would benefit cruise control, multi function steering wheel, AC etc which this car doesn't have by looking at it. Interior pics are a bit sparce, where are you from? could show you mine if you like? in my house everything is for sale.
