How good are drag tyres on the 1/4mile

Animal spec-c

Petrolheads
on a 4x4 will it make much difference ill have my breaking shaft issue resolved in the nxt week or so,ive ordered a level 5 hub and bar upgrade rated to 800 american whp so hopefully that will do the trick.......

I'd say that's a question for the SN boys,
Not enough lads here running fast enough cars that R888's wouldn't do the job!!
Dan

You have the answer to that Al, are you getting much wheel spin? if not, they wont make a bit of difference, if your at the power where your spinning taking off, which on a 4wd is high, then the only option is better rubber, i reckon something like R888 will do

ian, there a lad on scooby ireland selling a set at the moment

they would be over a grand new

I was going to say the guts of a grand for 18" R888's
I recommend Hankook RS2, full set for about €500, very good wearing track tyre!
Not grippy enough for you AL!!
Dan

al, what setting do you run on your dccd when launching?

the r888 would help as there as soft as your going to get as a road tyre but its keeping heat in any tyre before launch is the problem.

the rwd lads dont have a problem heating theres as they can do a burn out but theres not a lot you can do in 4wd, maybe do what andy forest does and run the smallest wheels you can with a big tyre with lower air pressure to see does it make a difference,

do you do anything on the day to help get the times down e.g weight, wing mirrors turned in, run low fuel etc

Be aware that when ordering R888's, you can specify "SG" soft compound,
Pull that big spoiler off as well! I like that look,
Dan

Taken from the Racelogic website.

Launch control is a function within the Traction Control system designed to automate standing starts to maximise the initial acceleration.

It is activated by pressing a button on the dashboard when the car is stationary. This will bring in a secondary rev-limit (for example 4000 rpm).

The throttle can be fully depressed without over-revving the engine. The car is put into gear, the throttle floored, and then the clutch is engaged, whilst the launch control system controls the wheelspin and revs for the perfect start.

On a turbo car, if the launch control is active, and full throttle is given for two to three seconds, the boost pressure will build up before the clutch is released, resulting in stunning off-the-line performance.

The launch control rev limit can be programmed via a laptop computer or by a combination of presses on the launch control button. This is done by pressing it once, and then once again but this time holding it in and raising the revs to the desired level, then the button is released, setting the new rev limit to this level. This makes it very easy to re-program the launching revs just before a start if conditions suddenly change.

There are various parameters you can tune if you want to get the last little bit of acceleration out of the system. You can have two switchable levels for wet and dry, the level of wheelspin at which the system swaps from Launch Control to traction Control can be adjusted, and on the professional system you can even switch to a lower limit once the car starts to move.

That a different set up do Scruff, thats Racelogic, which do traction control aswell.. your car will have to have traction control set up, with wires going to abs or original traction control if on the car,
Likes of Simtec launch control is just a rev controler, which allows you too foot to the floor, but stay at 4k revs, it doesnt moniter or control slip.
Race logic is big thing on Supras, the supra normal T.C is harsh and both cuts revs and applies the brakes if i remember correctly, race logic TC is great as you can adjust the sensitivity of the traction control and use it while drag racing... real good thing for a Rwd big power machine

I have launch control and dont have traction control..
i would take Launch control is the rev holding feature, the slip thing is an added feature added by another device, The Race Logic controler,
so if Al goes and asks for Launch control on an ecu, he wont be getting the thing that you are on about. he may buy a Race logic traction control unit aswell.

There was also a solvent that i think HKS had for sale that you pour on tyres to soften them before drag start, dont know how effective it was or anything

Launch control with traction control would assist if there was alot of wheel spin when leaving the start line, however I dont think its the kind of option you would be looking for Al.
Id say if you tried soft compount large diameter tyres on smaller rims, and that didnt work then you might have to look into a racelogic type of system....
Let us know how ya get on and what decision ya make in this regard
