How many till ya found the one

Confused_dude

Sunday Drivers
Well lads myself and a mate were chatting and he is looking for a clean impreza and I looked at 2 before the one I actually bought.

So my question is to you how many cars did ya look at before the one you now own

Only one.
Had the word out in the trade if one came about I wanted it, cash waiting.
They were very rare back then and hard to get.

Got a call from a mate who had one, went a drove it and collected that weekend.

I'm On my fifth impreza but you know after looking for your first one what to look for when buying and I'm nearly able to tell from pictures at this stage but obviously I have to inspect in person before buying, my first one I bought off a mate and I wasn't out looking really at the time but my second one I was looking for something in particular so I looked at about half a dozen before I found it!

I looked at about 8 up down and across England until I got the right one I am a fussy c*nt when buying though :multijump:

I reckon over the years I was looking for a clean sti I must have looked at 15 or more cars . all were described as been clean fresh cars only seen 2 good ones and bought the second one . all were newage cars but was still a job getting a good one .

3 or 4. You can usually tell when they drive up at first glance. If first impressions don't excite, walk away. If first impressions good, don't let the seller know. Then give it a proper looking over and ask plenty questions. If it doesnt add up walk away. Plenty sheds out there. A modified car wouldn't scare me if it is done right, but standard is more desirable. Modded cars have a rep for being driven hard but may be serviced and minded better by their owners if they are enthusiasts. Finally look for paperwork. Receipts are golden. More the better. Bad bodywork or oil leaks spell expensive repair bills sooner than later. Not worth the hassle. Also listen for any knocks or rattles and of course insist on a test drive even if it is around a car park with full lock both directions. Clunky suspension or steering can be a pain in the wallet. Check all fluid levels(coolant), oil(not like tar or gritty) and tyre condition(even wear front, rear) etc. Look for smoke when start up and idle. Check every button works. Finally know what version of car you are looking at by researching online before you get there, whether its JDM or EDM Ver 1,2,3 etc. Lots more but forgotten at moment. Never pay the asking price lol. Maybe others could add their check list also.

Good post there gonzo chicken sounds like a man that's been in the trade all the bases covered there

I wanted a new age un modded Wrx looked at 10 drove 8 some had perfect bodywork but Leakey diffs some had nervious handeling some were very honest cars (bit rough on the body but sound mechanically)
And some very over priced or modded untasetfully.
Ended up buying mine privately from a guy in Wicklow in his mid 50s that was looking to get out of his Wrx range rover and ktm Dakar style bike then he was buying a 1,6 hdi 407.

The car was stock except for a turbo timer and after a test drive I knew it needed a few bits the owner agreeded and said they would be done but we worked out a price to take it as is (so I knew it would be done right) haven't looked back since.
Best advice is factor in that you will have to spend money on what ever you buy and u won't be disappointed also let the owner drive first after you have had a good look at car if he dogs it from cold he's a moron and walk away

Good advice there from the last two posters!

I've had a total of 3 Impreza's and each time ended looking at about 3-4 before buying.
Ring and ask lots of questions before hand and get as much info as possible to help you decide if worth going to see it.

My current one is an '07 Hawk STI... the idea originally was to get a classic STI Type R as a weekend car.
Went to look at 4 of them and all dirt for one reason or another (3 of the 4 had clear accident damage with bad resprays though described as non crashed mint ones!).
I got so annoyed with it that changed plan to go for a newer one owner from new Hawk...

It's amazes me what lads say is mint. Like when I sell a car I'm as honest as possible in the add and always put 200 on top of my price because you have to barter a bit.

The first impreza I looked at got sold to Dublin area and 6 days later it's back on donedeal.

And this is a car which was described as mint and needs nothing.
Was fit to hit the bugger when I seen it

about 5/6 yrs ago i had the 1.6 as i couldn't get insured on the turbo one. Over the space of about 14-16months i traveled up and down the country looking at about 8 or 9 i think.
then got word that Shane Byrne in Wicklow just left his up in Dublin, UK WRX Prodrive with all Subaru Certs for the PPP and history and receipts only 31k on the clock, rang straight away and put a deposit on it and drove up, left them with my 1.6 and drove home with a huge smile on my face! Will never for get that day....

Car has ran smoothly ever since, just a o2 sensor went as they do.. never skipped a beat.
I was so happy because i almost gave in on the last car i looked at and by god i was so glad i didn't!

Shane still rings me to this day to see how his car is doing, you may part with the car but you will never part with Subaru :subaru:

bought my one by a fluke, I was buying a black 96 legacy rs in may 2007 and the seller pulled out of the sale coz his brother wanted to buy the car.....
anyway I was on carzone ten minutes after getting off the phone with the non seller and the 92 rs popped up,
only 5 minutes up the road from my gaff and I had it bought within an hour of it being put on the net for sale......
didn't know anything about the car at the time, I just thought it was a turbo legacy with a different style boot :subaru:

i looked at 8 before i bought the legacy rust was the biggest issue with them with 5 out of them being past it even for a track car as thats all i wanted at the time. went to look at 1 in mullingar that was on donedeal and ended up buying it .

I spent over 6 months of researching and checking adds, when I finally saved up enough money, there were two nice cars I liked. One of them I liked more, and it was pricey, unfortunately got sold just as I wanted to call the lad...

So I went to option two, there was ad on Donedeal for over 40 days for pretty decent looking, but fully stock impreza and the pricetag was suddenly moved up by 500euro, that scared me a bit, but nevertheless I went there and saw the car, there was NOTHING I could try to get the price down, the car was in mint condition, only thing I found was two very tiny dents on rear door by driver's side, which are obviously made from parking by other cars - nothing major and only thing I found on the car. Lad shown me all paperwork, car was regularly serviced at authorized service, and since I could not find anything to get the price lower, I just started bargaining, managed to get him 400 lower than after update, so he still got 100e more than the original ad.

This car did not have a single modification, and so I started looking for stuff I want, and I found a lad that was selling WRX spoiler for very cheap, called him, went there, and then I saw the first impreza that I wanted to buy. The guy didnt seem happy with the car, and when I saw it, I was actually happy that I didnt get it. It wasnt in worse condition, but there were a lot of dents all around the car and obviously it was in a hands of young fella who did not really treat his scooby well.

I guess I was very lucky with my purchase, I did standard servicing to it and a few bits. Anyways, if its your first Subaru you are after, you should get a mechanic with you, or someone who knows where to look.

First Impreza I owned was a 1998 GT555... bought the first car I saw! it was absolutely mint, one owner car with full history. In fairness I bought this back in 02 so it was only 4 years old at the time.

Second Impreza... V6 Type R... bought the second one I saw. First one was a better car with 18k kilometers on it but owner did a runner with deposit and left me high and dry. Second one I saw wasn't as good but they were hens teeth back in 04 when I bought it so choose wasn't as good. Still a clean car with only 40k kilometers on it when I bought it.

Third Impreza... a Classic wagon... turned into a nightmare trying to find a good un. Mainly as I bought it back in 2010 and they were at best nearly 10 years old. Looked at 5/6 before I found my current car up the North.

On my first - real impulse buy. 330ci was rear ended and written off and I was running about in a V8 Grand Cherokee.

Awesome machine but not much fun on the twisties... Spotted mine just outside London and had it on the ferry back from Liverpool 3 days later!

There's a couple members cars on here I want but back in May a few years ago I was passenger with Brian going across the gap and said that'd be the classic I'd buy if I ever went for one.

Roll on to scoobyfest up north I was passenger in Nick's SpecC and said to myself someday I'll have a white SpecC Hawk. Brian let me sit in the drivers seat at Scoobyfest and it just felt good.

When I moved the DC5 on I had a look at a couple things. One being a JDM blue blob with DCCD. Out of budget but owner let me take it for a spin anyway which was brilliant.

Decided I didn't want one just yet as I'm only a young fella and I classed it as a comfy car coming from the DC5.

So I got in touch with Brian and made an offer on the car.

Think a week after buying it, the chap with the blue blob got back in touch and hit the top end of my budget of what he'd let the car go for. I was cursing because I'd have felt a right dick offering the sort of money he would sold it to me for but I was happy with the car I'd bought so I kept it and said I should learn to insult people with offers, they might just take it. :D

Next will be a blob and then a hawk for me.

had made decision i wanted a impreza about 5-6 years ago . spent about six months searching , tryin to decide between power(sti) or age (1.6 hawk) . so one of my mates was about to buy a altezza and said this garage (jap cars) had a lovely imprreza and i should really go up for a look . so up i went and there it was sitting jus inside the gate . spent a good while lookin over it and appriciating the visual mods of which i had no clue about the "prodrive style" , but i knew i really liked it .

now you havew to remember i was driving a 1ltr seat ibiza for the last couple of years , so when i was offered a test drive , it was like dangling a carrot in front of a donkey . goin up the road , put the foot down , boost built up and i nearly creamed my pants . holy mother of a jerusalm baby ! it had to be myne . feck the 1.6 , feck the hawk , i wanted this feeling to be in my life . so about a week later after a mix up i collected her and have never looked back . still in love with it and cant see it being sold !

and yes i know i got jammy gettin a good one off "chief" @ jap cars

9 months and too many donkeys to list

It's not just subaru though, people advertise their "mint" donkeys under every marque. Have given up looking for a newer diesel for the moment as I've just seen shite.
